Is This It was a decent debut, after that they just ran out of ideas and the sound became stale.

but those days are over and my tastes have matured past being easily pleased by every indie band that comes out of the garage.

Not for me. :B

And you may never, and I think thats ok. It comes down to preference, in my opinion. I started loving indie but moved on to what I found to be bigger and better things. Maybe Indie is your bigger and better thing. If that makes any sense at all.

About a year or two ago when I was an indie kid, I probably would've loved this album, but those days are over and my tastes have matured past being easily pleased by every indie band that comes out of the garage.
To give credit where credit is due, The Strokes has their moments with being catchy and relatively fun, but overall they don't offer anything really new. For the most part Is This It? makes you ask just that, it's generally forgettable and you won't remember it in the long run, thats for sure. It lacks originality and this post-garage rock band generally takes too many elements from their predecessors of the original garage explosion of the sixties.
In the end, this album brings nothing new to the table, but may be fun to listen to one or two times before you get bored of it.

6.5/10

OK so every album that isn't 100% original is bad. Quite silly if you ask me.

That wasn't what I exactly was getting at, I suppose I didn't flesh that out enough. While I think the best albums are the ones that bring something new to the table, I don't mean to say just because an album isn't groundbreaking it isn't any good. I just think Is This It? borrows a little too heavily, though there are bands that copy much more heavily than these guys do here, though. It was a solid album, unoriginal a bit but fun, I don't think 6.5 is really a BAD score. It's certainly better than Room On Fire and First Impressions Of Earth.

The Strokes are a sound of their own, i can't honestly hear were they are copying other former or current bands. They have their own unique style which is mostly influenced by the Velvet Underground. Compared to many other bands today(mostly mainstream) i say that The Strokes are one of the most original and inspiring bands today. 6.5 i say is unfair and if you hear most albums of this
millenium you'll notice how much crap they are (with a few exceptions of coarse).

"She Loves You" and "Come Together" don't sound the same.

Fuck yes. I am so glad this album was next for the club, I personally think it's one of the best albums to come out since the year 2000. (I'm lucky I already had it on my iPod) This Is It gets a 10/10 from me

Oh, forgot my review:

More like This is Shit. Bland, atrocious garbage. In all honesty, I cannot find a single appealing thing about this album. 2/10.
