Review: Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water ah..where to start. Well, I guess this record means a lot to me personally because I can (and have) listened to it a whole ton, and I love every single song on there. I strongly believe it’s the best single representation of Simon & Garfunkel’s work. If there was one album that alone would be a greatest hits album for Simon & Garfunkel, this one would be it. It’s packed full of hit after hit, and inbetween many hidden gems. The best thing about this album, I think is the way it switches between faster and slower-paced numbers. For those of you that like slower numbers, you’ll most likely enjoy “So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright, The Boxer, The Only Living Boy in New York, El Condor Pasa (If I Could), Song for the Asking, and the title track, Bridge Over Troubled Water, if you’re more into fast paced tracks, “Keep the Customer Satisfied, Cecilia, Baby Driver, Bye Bye Love, and Why Don’t You Write Me” are your thing. Also what I think makes this Simon & Garfunkel’s best work is the fact that even though a lot of the songs are sung by Simon (a good majority) Garfunkel really makes his presence felt on pretty much the whole record, and gives it a Simon & Garfunkel vibe, rather than a solo Paul Simon effort. The melodies are really brilliant, and catchy, the lyrics are great, and the vocals are exciting, and really bring the record to life. The vocals are well distributed for the most part, and there are several songs where both Paul and Art sing, and harmonise beautifully (The Boxer, anyone?) which is something they’re well known for. Besides the energetic vocals, and the exciting harmonies, there are some really interesting instrumentation on here, for example, the South American-flavoured instruments on “El Condor Pasa (If I Could)”, the brass section on “Keep the Customer Satisfied”, the strings on the title track, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, and even the infectiously-catchy handclapping on “Cecilia” (hey it counts). I think that there’s nothing I can do that can effectively explain well why I like this record so much. It really speaks for itself…I may overrate the living hell out of it, but it’s really for a good reason, let the record speak for itself, don’t listen to me, I guarantee you’ll be caught up in what I think is hands down one of the best records of 1970. Rating: 10/10 Track Picks: Bridge Over Troubled Water, Keep the Customer Satisfied, El Condor Pasa (If I Could), Cecilia, The Boxer |

I heard Bridge Over Troubled Water the other day and today. It's a fantastic album. The vocals are very good and I think they fit each song perfectly. "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)" is probably my favorite song (yes, even more than "Bridge Over Troubled Water") because it reminds me of when I went to Peru and that always brings back a lot of feelings I had while there and I remember the time I spent there and the things I did so I get really emotional. The music in the album is great. The lyrics in the album are great. 10/10 |

Sorry i've been away for a while. BOTW is probably the best album of 1970 and is one of my personal favorites from S & G. The first four songs in the album are phenominal and can't be compared. 10/10 p.s. i should be able to upload my album pretty soon. |

I didn't have to think too much about what album to post. I had to decide between two albums: Chiodos - All's Well Ends Well or The Strokes - Is This It, and i thought many people wouldn't like Chiodos so I went it safe and am going to post The Strokes - Is This It. It's still a great album which I heavenly love! In the album there will be a song call "New York City Cops". this song isn't in the original album, but i feel like it should have been so i included it. If you want to take it off thats fine. Many people love The Strokes, since they're influenced by people such as Buddy Holly and John Lennon. I don't see the influence and they're one of the more disappointing bands of our generation. Some songs like "Someday" are good, but the album didn't ever hold up for me. I'll give it a 4.5/10. |

The Strokes aren't the worst, but I would've preferred something else. At least it wasn't Chiodos, I would've quit the club if I had to listen to that shit again. |

About a year or two ago when I was an indie kid, I probably would've loved this album, but those days are over and my tastes have matured past being easily pleased by every indie band that comes out of the garage. To give credit where credit is due, The Strokes has their moments with being catchy and relatively fun, but overall they don't offer anything really new. For the most part Is This It? makes you ask just that, it's generally forgettable and you won't remember it in the long run, thats for sure. It lacks originality and this post-garage rock band generally takes too many elements from their predecessors of the original garage explosion of the sixties. In the end, this album brings nothing new to the table, but may be fun to listen to one or two times before you get bored of it. 6.5/10 |
