Well, I will try to suck a little less , and actually get around to writing my opinions on The Crucifucks. The name itself merits a high score, but taking into consideration the content also deems it worthy of a 8.8/10. I'll say it again, any band willing to have a song advocating the assassination of Ronald Reagan wins over my heart immediately, and hell, the music was just as badass. The Savior destroys every other song on the album with an honorable mention to Washington. There were a few low points, but they happened to be the shorter songs on the album. I liked it. So yeah, my review in a shorter more precise form: Badass. |

Thinkin' one thing and doin' another

Crucifucks - Wisconsin Surprising to say the least, surprise was definetely my first reaction. Getting past the Intro - which has some fine guitar work, who is that? - we get to here Doc's voice for the first time. And really, it couldn't fit the music and lyrics better; who else would you want singing "You must be wondering how I know all of these things. Well, you know.... I'm God!"? Anyway, to the songs. The first 5 or 6 see the band channeling The Buzzcocks with some actually melodic punkish songs which are short, punchy and catchy as hell. Prime example, "Washington" who's chorus is totally singalong-able; "Washington, you're no fun you're no fun" and a nice little riff to cap it off. That's the thing with these songs, they're mostly pretty well written with decent enough melodies which you can appreciate if you get past the vocal styling's of Doc. The rest of the material is uniformly pretty strong; the lyrics are alternatingly hillarious (Washington) or biting (Laws Against Laughing, Pigs In A Blanket). Special mention must be made to the title track, which is actually very pretty with its acoustic-y intro and sad, Wisconsin-deprecating lyrics. Also, the closer Saviour is a contender for best on the album along with Pigs In A Blanket which feature the angriest lyrics and most inspired vocal delivery. Final rating: 9/10 Highlights: Washington, Laws Against Laughing, Pigs In A Blanket, When The Top Comes Off, Wisconsin, Saviour Great choice ADeadChicken! |
