The only reason I don't like babies is because I'm too selfish to want to care for someone other than myself at the moment.

I'll comment:

There was this girl that I used to know. She used to work with me. She seemed like she was a bit feminist. Here's why. I'm not going to lie or sugar coat it, she had gigantic knockers, noticeable. There was no way around it. You couldn't not notice it. The other girls that worked there, noticed. And the way we were, we all joked about things like that. We used to tease our driver, Pete, about being fat and we (including him) would laugh. It was all in good fun. And one day, we teased her about her boobs, just to test the waters, kind of. It was a girl as a matter of fact who made the crack, and I don't even remember what the joke was. But the girl, she flipped out. She started screaming and crying, telling all of us to "Get the fuck outta here!". She made us all go home. She was so mad. We came to find out later that she carries both a knife and pepper spray on her. She refused to close the store at night. She refused to take the trash out, even during the day time. She just couldn't handle jokes about women, or anything like that.

It was annoying to say the least. I don't understand why she was so fired up. I don't understand what got her so mad. But, the thing that I've noticed, is that most women don't feel like that. Most women are still in the old '50s role or raising babies, cooking, and cleaning. Most women I know anyway. My mother did that for almost twenty years before recently getting a job. And all of the mothers that I know to this day do that. Their interests include decorating the house, watching TV (the Food Network and various other home and gardening channels), and shopping. And no one is forcing these things upon them. These are the things that truly make them happy. They shop for fabrics, jewelry, clothes, and foods with their husbands' credit cards.

And I bring up the point, once again, that no one is making them feel this way. This is what makes them happy. We haven't come that far. Women can't be drafted in the war, and they don't want to. They want to be treated equally, except where they feel they're "too weak" or that a job is "a man's job". That's an old attitude that's a feminist's worst nightmare. And I'm not saying that there aren't the few that do step up to the "man's job". I know that, and I admire them. I'm really grateful for the women that are over there fighting for everybody's (men, women, and children alike) rights and freedoms. I truly am grateful for that. And I feel that they are the ones brining the change. Because it's up to them to do so, society isn't doing it's part.

It's acceptable in society for a man to work and the woman to stay home. I've heard of men who do that. I say that I've heard of them because A.) It's rare, and B.) I hear about them in a "What a jerk, huh? That guy ain't worth spit. He's supposed to be supportin' her". And the women agree on this.

When I first got with my girlfriend, I was unemployed. She would buy me things. When we went to the movies, she'd pay. Or when we went out to eat, she'd pay. And I got teased, ridiculed, and sometimes, verbally assaulted and attacked about it. Her parents hated me. Now, of course, I have a job and I'm the one who pays, though she still makes more money than I do. But I don't mind.

But what bothers me, is that people still have the attitude, people still think in the mind set, that women are somehow less capable or earning money. It is true that women still make less then men for doing the same job, but it's certainly not true, that women are less capable of making a name for themselves, respectfully, in the business world. I'm not a feminist, because I think that women should step up to the plate, and that society should step up to the plate, and accept women as equals. Make acceptable, no, not acceptable, the norm for either gender to stay at home and live off of the other. Or make it the norm for both people to work. We've got to lose a bunch of this, "men fight the wars, make the money, make the laws, and provide and women cook, clean, shop, raise and have babies" shit that's still hanging around from the '50s. We've got to expect the same out of everyone.

And people say it's because of things like, women being degraded on TV and in the movies. Well I've just got to say, women are doing it! Women are choosing to star in porn, women are dancing around in bikinis on beer commercials, women are the ones starring in these sexy scenes for guys on TV. If these women cared more about women's rights, or feminism, or whatever it is, over money, then a huge part of the problem would be fixed.

It's up to the women, society isn't going to do it.

ok first of all, she probably did have some sexual trauma earlier in life which made her react like that.
and just because you meant well doesnt mean it came off well. if a guy started teasing me about my boobs, i wouldnt care.. but i know a lot of girls who would.
just lay off

and i dont know where the heck you live... but most of the women i know work full time, while raising a family. ALSO, just because a woman chooses to stay home and take care of her children does NOT mean she's lazy or unmotivated. You make it sound like fun, which means you've obviously never spent a lot of time around a mother with young children. Its a HARD job, and yes women are more fit to do it biologically (boobs. breast feeding.) there ARE fundamental differences between men and women and i hate when people try to pretend like there aren't.
Women arent drafted, and less are in the army because OF these fundamental differences. On average (notice the word average) men are stronger than women. it would be stupid to think they could play the exact same role in combat. (and yes, i'm a girl so i can say this without sounding sexist. its not sexist, its the truth)

I'm not saying women should stay home and bake instead of work, and that women shouldn't be IN the military. i'm just saying, there are limits! and stop acting like a woman who isnt working full time is being sexist against herself, and that women in combat would be the same as men.

we can never come to an understanding about feminism unless people understand these differences.
Yes women should be paid the same as men
Yes we should have all the political and social rights
etc.
but YES women should be able to stay home and take care of children without being ridiculed.
on the other hand, they should work full time if they so choose.
feminism should be about choices, not putting women into another "role". God knows we've had enough of that.

so basically, the lines of gender cant be completely blurred.
i consider myself a feminist, but total equality doesn't mean complete disregard for physical differences.
i'm not just making this up, there is actually an entire school of feminism related to understanding the limits of these biological differences.

I'm not making it sound like fun. And I understand that the lines of gender can't be completely blurred. I just think perhaps that for every four men, if there is another draft, we should draft one woman.

And I know that raising children can be tough (though I can't say I know to what extent), but after the children have grown up, it's retirement for the mother. You can't tell me that Mrs.Smith who raised a son for 18 years worked harder than Mr.Smith who worked and raised the son and still has to work well after little Timmy Smith has left the home. I would simply refuse to believe you.

I guess they don't draft women because

1. They can easily just get pregnant and get out of it.
2. Women aren't even allowed to fight in combat.

I'm just going to say this.

Women should have the right to do whatever they damn please! (Within the laws... dur...)

I have no problem with feminists, though there are some feminists here who want to turn this into a matriarchal society. Which is really really wrong in my opinion. Women and men should have equal rights. Neither one should get an advantage over the other in things like scholarships.

Like how hispanics get scholarships for being hispanic. Bullshit in my opinion, they get scholarships and whatnot and still only about 12% of those hispanics that go to college graduate down here. (Around 32% of high school hispanics go to college down here. ) This may be national statistics, I'm not sure.

I can't stand babies. All they do is scream and cry and make life difficult, especially in public. If I do get married and my wife wants a child, we'll adopt somebody who's already four or five.

Pretty much agree.

I had to sit next to one just now for an hour (Good Friday service), with one behind me as well, and with several of them just crying and making noise all around me. It's meant to be a solemn occasion and I had trouble concentrating because of all the noise. ><

They also just scream for fun in places like shops, movie theaters, buses, and other public venues because they don't know any better. They have no discipline because they're too young to have learned any, yet people still think you're an awful parent (or at least people here do). I don't want to have to carry around a screaming baby that is going to attract attention to me, ruin the event for myself and others, and on top of that have people tell me I'm a bad parent. Oh no, I'm going to help the planet and adopt children that need it. And if I accidentally impregnate my wife, well, I guess then I'm also doing the planet a favor because I'm so awesome.

that's what i always say if my husband needs a kid. babies are nasty. i hate that they can't talk. they drool and crap on themselves like retards. if you adopt a kid who is like four, you can pick one whose personality you enjoy and also make sure you get a cute one. who knows how ugly your own kids could turn out. i like kids because they are hilarious, i hate babies because they're barely human. why is it that animal babies are cute and human babies are so freakin' ugly?

that makes me think of the, im sorry to bring him up in here bit it has relevance, Paul McCartney story of when his dad first saw him he went home and cried because he thought he had an ugly son. He came back the next day and would later say that he "looked more human". I find that funny. Of all people to be called ugly, its Paul McCartney, by his own father none the less.
I was baby sitting today from like 8am to 6pm, 3 boys. the oldest is 5 and the youngest isnt yet a year. they were great. it all just depends on the kid. I love babies, hope to have at least 4 of my own someday.

Feminism? I believe my standard answer to that is "Get your ass back in the kitchen!"

Hah, no, not really. I treat women exactly the same as I would anyone else. Except, well... On second thought, I don't.
