Basically, this is kind of old news, but the RIAA (Rich Ignorant Assholes of America) or the "We pretend to protect the artists' rights, but we're full of shit"

have been sending cease and desist letters to campuses all around the United States. Their new plan to pretend they're interested in the artists' rights is to target individual users with a letter to stop all illegal activities. Now the user has one of two options, either 1) Pay the fine of around 1000-1500 dollars, OR be taken to court by the RIAA

Maybe what major labels and the RIAA should focus on isn't countless lawsuits against poor college students, but maybe lowering their criminally high CD prices and maybe producing music worth a damn. Maybe then people would be more inclined to buy CDs.
