since there are so god damn many, I'm not gonna even try and put them all into a poll

If you want, I can tally the results by hand and update regularly, but there's no sense in trying to put em all into a poll..also this way if you'd like, you can change your vote

I choose We're Only in it for the Money an undeniable masterpiece from start to finish. I love the satirical tone of pretty much the whole first half, and how the second half constantly switches back and forth. This was my first exposure to Zappa, and still remains my favourite, and I doubt anything will top it. We're Only in it for the Money is a must-have for any Zappa fan. I don't care if Freak Out! is more important or whatever, I really dig the way Zappa pretty much makes fun of the whole counterculture/flower power movement, in a most hilarious fashion.

so in summary, We're Only in it for the Money> you

Freak Out! has been my favorite ever since I first got it. Sheik Yerbouti and Joe's Garage are runners-up.

Definitely Hot Rats. The best fusion album I've heard.

I love all of them, but my personal favorites that not too many people seem to share are Absolutely Free and Uncle Meat. Absolutely Free is criminally underrated. It's a shame because it falls right in between their groundbreaking debut and one of Zappa's more conventional albums. I truly feel this one is just as good as the debut and WOIFTM. Uncle Meat may be too avant-garde for some, but I feel it's the perfect blend of Zappa's free jazz and humor.

I only have three, but I'll rank them like this.

1. Hot Rats
2. Over-Nite Sensation
3. Apostrophe (')

But he still kicks ass. This summer I borrowed a Frank Zappa greatest hits thing from the library (I listened to the first three tracks and never listened to it again), but these are just too good.

But he still kicks ass.

I read that as "but he still licks ass" the first time through.

Well K and L are right next to each other on the keyboard. That can get you into some trouble, right? "You can just kick my balls!" or "I just licked his ass so bad."

Okay. I'm done.

Anyway, back to the topic. I have not heard them all, so I'm not going to say anything, except Apostrophe is pretty awesome.

"I just licked his ass so bad."

Replace that "him" with a "her" and that "ass" with "a nice game of scrabble"!

My uncle, the great music explorer, tried SO HARD to get me a copy of "Absolutely Free", he even got the record store guy into it, but they couldn't.

I also know someone who has a vinyl copy of Uncle Meat.

I would kill to find a single cd at my Borders for $12. Everything at mine is $19.

Good thing the book selection is great. ^_^

Amazon.com essential recording
The Mothers of Invention answer the sentiments of the suits, the suburb dwellers, and flower children of the 60's with a big fat raspberry. Considered by many to be the Mothers' (and some would say Zappa's) best album, We're Only in it for the Money deals with harsh subject matter in a seemingly glib and light-hearted fashion (eventually a Zappa trademark), sparing no targets with catchy melodies and high-pitched vocals. Zappa applies the same aggressive studio techniques he did on Lumpy Gravy, creating a jarring collage of sound that still sounds avant-garde today. Highlights from this flawless album are numerous and include the hippie bashing "Who Needs thePeace Corps," the bedroom science of "Let's Make the Water Turn Black," the anthematic "Mother People," and the perfect payoff of "What's the Ugliest Part of Your Body?" Quite simply one of the best rock albums of all time. --Andrew Boscardin

We're Only In It For The Money. The album is the culmination of Zappa's genius.
