On the contrary, I would say it's the only fair way to make lists such as these. If only for the simple fact that it's impossible to rank albums or music in terms of greatness without putting bias and subjectivity into it. But by ranking them in terms of influence, you're actually able to make it somewhat more objective and please more people, as well as making a more definitive list. Otherwise, they have the right to say anything's better than anything, you know? But you can actually put a reasonable argument out there and show strong examples that Buddy Holly is more important than, say, 2Pac, so the list becomes stronger overall. So it makes perfect sense for them to do it like that. And if you don't understand why someone's ranked so high, read the article. They explain everything pretty well. |
