THE JANITOR
I will remark that while I don't think Pete Townsend was a great guitarist he could write some very good lyrics. His guitar work was never impressive to me or much beyond adequate in fact. His guitars at time moved the music and added a little punch to the songs and we all certainly can identify some Who songs by a familiar, sort of "legendary" Townsend solo. But compared to anyone of a hundred other guitar players, I would consider him average. Which is, I think what he aimed for.
Now he often tried to punctuate his guitar work with a bit of showmanship in live performances of course. I am sure he did not ever consider himself a great lead guitarist such as a "Jimmy Page", a "Hendrix" or "insert name here" but merely another means of delivering the rock and roll goods while swinging the windmill and smashing an axe during live performances.
The Who were (are I guess) a good band but if you want to pick them apart, Roger has a great voice and John was a great bass player and that is all I will say about my opinions of their greatness without extending this topic with endless "my drummer can beat up your drummer" diatribe.

ROBOTS!
I think he helped to write it, too. And White City Fighting was going to appear on one of Dave's solo albums. A shame that and Give Blood are the only songs worth listening to on the album.

As for The Who... Definitely my favorite band. There is not a better live band in existence, and... Hell, why bother, it's already been said.

That's an awesome video, he really drives that solo home. He also sung The Dirty Jobs in that show, the first part anyway.

I mean, if you play like me, you had better have your own band. Nobody wants that amount of participation from a bass player.

The Who is my second favorite band of all time. I'm sorry, they don't userp The Doors.

Couldn't watch the video because my computer decided to screw me over.
