Love Will Tear Us Apart, Again

Ok, this is a thread for people to rant about how awesome/shitty they think a band is and inform them what they should listen/not listen to in their opinion, filling out this form: Band Name: Genre: Your Rating Of Them (1-10): Best Album: Songs: - Best All Around: - Loudest/Hardest/Most Rockin': - Most Relaxing: - Most Played/A song by them you may have heard: - Song That Best Represents The Band: - Bands Like This Band: - Coolest Thing About This Band: ----------------- Two people can do the same band, and I hope this thread doesn't get heated. Well, I'll go first. Band Name: The Ramones Genre: Punk Rock Your Rating Of Them (1-10): 9 Best Album: The Ramones (Debut) Songs: - Best All Around: Here Today, Gone Tomorrow - Loudest/Hardest/Most Rockin': Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue - Most Relaxing: I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend - Most Played/A song by them you may have heard: Blitzkrieg Bop - Song That Best Represents The Band: Judy Is A Punk - Bands Like This Band: The Damned/The Buzzcocks/The Clash/The Sex Pistols/X/Dead Kennedys/Black Flag/Bad Brains (The Ramones basically influenced all these acts) - Coolest Thing About This Band: The fact that they're style is so simple, but so fun and original. No one took this miminalist approach to music before. Their sense of humour in thir songs is magnificent, and they influenced a whole new generation of bands and bring punk rock to the mainstream. |

Name: Coldplay Genre: Alternative, Post-Britpop Rating: 10 (biased) Best Album: All three, Parachutes to start, though Songs: - All Around: "The Scientist" - Loudest: "Pour Me" - Most Relaxing: Anything from their debut - Most Known: "Yellow", "Clocks" - Represents: "Fix You" Similar Artists: U2, Muse, Death Cab For Cutie, Keane Coolest Thing About Them: They're not heavy. Like many artists who people like around here (John Lennon, mainly), they rely on emotions to fuel their songs. Very easy lyrics to relate to, and have a beautiful sound to them. |

Band Name: The Kinks Genre: Rock, Pop Your Rating Of Them (1-10): 10 Best Album: The Villave Green Preservation Society and Arthur Songs: - Best All Around: Waterloo Sunset - Loudest/Hardest/Most Rockin': Hatred and All Day and All Of The Night - Most Relaxing: Sitting By The Riverside - Most Played/A song by them you may have heard: You Really Got Me - Song That Best Represents The Band: I'm Not Like Everybody Else - Bands Like This Band: The Beatles, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Who, The Jam, The Pretenders - Coolest Thing About This Band: Ray Davies is probably the most insightful rock songwriter his approach to serious themes adding a touch of humour is fantastic. This band has a vast catalog of songs that vary in genres quite a lot, their songs and specially albums (a lot of which are concept albums or rock operas) were always very creative in one way or another. They were truly original and authentic. |

Band Name: The Doors Genre: Psychdelic Rock Your Rating Of Them (1-10): 10 Best Album: The Doors (Debut) Songs: - Best All Around: The End - Loudest/Hardest/Most Rockin': Roadhouse Blues - Most Relaxing: Indian Summer - Most Played/A song by them you may have heard: Light My Fire - Song That Best Represents The Band: When The Music's Over - Bands Like This Band: Jefferson Airplane/Moby Grape/The Grateful Dead/Quicksilver Messenger Service/Country Joe & Fish (and Country Joe McDonald solo) - Coolest Thing About This Band: The way they combine blues and jazz influences with psychdelia and lyrical mysticism. Their music touches on the most primal level and the most intellectual at the same time. Whilst there were other great psychdelic rock groups, this oen takes the cake. |

When you say rating, what's the scale? Is it like, based on genre, or on the grand scheme of things? For instance: If it's based on everything in total, then 0 would be a bunch of people who don't know how to play or sing fucking around with instruments and making as much noice as possible and 10 would be The Beatles and The Stones-caliber. If it's based on genre, then for like a shoegaze band giving them a 10 would put them on the level of My Bloody Valentine, and giving a punk band a 10 would make them like The Sex Pistols, etc. Which did you originally intend? |

Band Name: Portishead Genre: trip-hop, downtempo Your Rating Of Them (1-10): 9 Best Album: Dummy Songs: - Best All Around: Strangers - Loudest/Hardest/Most Rockin': They have no hard rockin' songs, it's mood music - Most Relaxing: It Could Be Sweet - Most Played/A song by them you may have heard: Glory Box, Sour Times - Song That Best Represents The Band: Mysterons, Roads, Sour Times - Similar Artists: Massive Attack, Lamb, Tricky - Coolest Thing About This Band: That it sounds like nothing else. Dummy is claimed to be one of the most depressive albums ever. Try to listen to this record at night. Portishead's music is moody, atmospheric and beautiful. |

Name: Radiohead Genre: Alternative, Electronica, Grunge Rating: 9 Best Album: OK Computer and The Bends Songs: - All Around: "Just" - Loudest: "Just" - Most Relaxing: "You And Who's Army?" - Most Known: "Creep", "Karma Police" - Represents: "Paranoid Android" Similar Artists: R.E.M., Coldplay, Can, Beck Coolest Thing About Them: Though it may take a couple listens to get into their stuff (trust me, it did for myself), when you do, there's no going back. They're the true meaning of Alternative, every album has massive changes, from the grunge driven Pablo Honey to the 90s' masterpiece OK Computer to the electronia of Kid A, you have to like something. |

Band Name: Led Zeppelin Genre: Hard Rock Your Rating Of Them (1-10): 10 Best Album: IV/Zoso/Runes Songs: - Best All Around: Stairway To Heaven - Loudest/Hardest/Most Rockin': Immigrant Song - Most Relaxing: The Rain Song - Most Played/A song by them you may have heard: Stairway To Heaven - Song That Best Represents The Band: Rock and Roll - Bands Like This Band: Cream/Aerosmith/The Yardbirds/Deep Purple/ACDC/Van Halen - Coolest Thing About This Band: Their perfection of the blues/rock and roll and the way they can be the hardest rocking band and the calmest, most beautiful at the same time. Both ther acoustic/electric stuff are two sides of the same excellent coin. Of course, their legendary mystifying and accelerating of rock music in the 70's makes them that much more powerful. |

Name: Nick Drake Genre: Folk, Acoustic, Vocal Rating: 9 Best Album: Five Leaves Left Songs: - All Around: "Time Has Told Me" - Loudest: Hahahahaha. D: - Most Relaxing: "Saturday Sun" - Most Known: "One Of These Things First" - Represents: "Pink Moon" Similar Artists: Bob Dylan, Donovan, Simon & Garfunkel, Sufjan Stevens Coolest Thing About Them: Nick Drake has probably the most beautiful and depressing music you'll ever hear from anyone. His lyrics were really great for hardly ever writing before picking up a guitar, and since he only released three albums, all of his work is essential. |
