yeah his dad was actually from africa. he moved to hawaii where he met his white mother. the dad went back to africa after he was educated here to try to help the country. they split up pretty soon and he was raised by his mom. there's a bio on the biography channel about him that talks a lot about it, he spent about an hour talking about it on oprah, and he's written two books, so it's not exactly a secret or anything. it actually seems to me like he talks about it a whole lot and he often says it's his multi cultural background that helps him be able to talk to different groups of people so well and see things from other perspectives. |

Yes, that could be an advantage. Thanks for the info. It's too bad we have a society where skin color still seems to mean so much, even as we ideally (I sincerely hope) move toward a color-blind society, in actual practice rather than lip-service. Don't get me wrong, so far I also am intrigued by the man, and the possibilities he may have as a leader. In my view, if he doesn't reveal TOO much bias toward the typical tax-and-spend, throw money without accountability social programs, easy on criminals, open-borders, penalties for being rich, racial quotas to reflect the population without merit, and all the other programs and issues by some that drive normal hard-working Americans nuts, then even I might vote for him. It's a political stance based on issues, not a racial one that I aspire to. |

The thing I don't like is when people like a politician just because of his race. I'm not saying anyone here is doing that - I haven't taken the time to read all the responses - but the fact that people are saying 'I hope he wins 'cause it's time we have a black president' without looking at his policies or track record really annoys me. After all, that in itself is a form of racism. |

My friend wants him to win just 'cause his name sounds like a terrorist name. And what's up with his ad? 08AMA? Kinda creative.

i saw him on conan the other day and he was saying that he's not sure if george bush is trying to give him a nickname or if he just can't pronounce his name and that he calls him either "bomma" or "rock." it was pretty hilarious. |
