We're not saying they're stupid. I just honestly think that if they all had 4.0s in school and went to Ivy League colleges that 99% of our Army wouldn't be in Iraq. |

i know i've beaten this point to death, but a LOT of people i know went over there for patriotic reasons, not the $ or because they couldnt do anything else. A lot of people are on 2nd or 3rd tours of duty as well, by CHOICE...not necessity. my friend is volunteering to go over and fight even though his battalion isnt being deployed. he is transfering JUST to go over there. maybe i'm just biased because the people i know didnt do it for personal gain, but whatever. i dont think EITHER of us can extrapolate our personal experience to define the entire armed forces.

I'm not trying to give my personal experience anymore. But do you really think that our Army would stay strong and plentiful if all of the soldiers had degrees from Ivy League colleges? |

That's what I'm saying! Like most jobs in the sun that involve physical labor, let alone the risk of death by gunfire, beheading, or blown up, people turn to them because of their education, or how good they did in school, or how good they did in college, if they went to college, doesn't allow them to make more money working in the air conditioning, behind a desk. And if they're there for patriotic reasons? Why do recruiters focus more on the benefits, why do they say "We'll pay for your college!", or ask questions like "Do know what you're doing after high school? Do you know if you're going to college?", and why do they hang around malls in poor districts more than they do wealthy ones? Why do they do all of these things, why don't they focus more on serving your country? Because, like all business, they advertise with what sells. |

what does being poor and your level of education have to do with anything? alot of jobs when you're gettign hired focus on benifits becasue they are super importent. you wouldn't work full time for anyone if you didn't get benifits, |

More often than not, the poor tend to do worse in school than the rich. The better you do in school, the less likely you are to join the military. So, if you're are poor, and don't have money to go to college, or if you have done poorly in school, you are more likely to join the military based on the benefits (paying for your college, the actual pay). If you are wealthy, you are less likely to join the military based on the benefits but more on a patriotic level. More often, the poor join the military than the rich. So it wouldn't be totally untrue to say that if everyone tried there best in school they'd be less likely to go to Iraq. And that is true. If everyone studied really really hard, did all they could to make the best possible grade in school, we'd have less soldiers in Iraq. |

what facts do you have that back this up? i know rich kids that are dumber then sacks of shit. look at all the pilots in the military if a person was stupid they wouldn't hand them over a million plus dollar jet. tons of people do bad in school then go work in a factory as well. so if the poor studied really hard and where super smart they wouldn't join the military you are saying. but you say the poor join so they can go to college. so they are goign to end up in the military either way with your logic, right? |

Yes, I'm saying no matter which way you look at it, you'll always have more poor and less educated people in the military that you will have wealthy college educated people in the military. |
