So the local hangout spot around here is this place called main street. Mainly a bunch of high schoolers and some junior high schoolers go there on fridays and saturdays to watch a movie, eat, and just walk around and hang out. So yesterday me and a few guys were talking to our friends when this security guard (who sounded like he just got here from africa a few months ago) walks up to us. This was the interaction. Guard: I'm sure you guys have heard there's no more gathering on main street. All: What? huh? etc. Guard: you can go into one of the shops or the theater courtyard if you want, but you can't stand around. Adrian: No but we were just going to McDonald's and ran into our friends so we started talking to them. Guard: Well you have to go inside somewhere you can't stand around any more. Mike (me): And this is a law? Guard: Yes. Mike: Do you know who proposed it? Guard: Bob Graham. He owns this. I knew this wasn't true, it could've been a real law, but I felt bad for the guy (who was probably an immigrant working hard to put food on his family XD) so I didn't push it any further and left. I figured I'd take it up with the higher-ups who issue the orders rather than the poor guys who have to carry em out. So basically, this guy Bob Graham (a democrat) runs this area called Miami Lakes like a mobster. He doesn't need to make bills or go through legislation because this entire town is pretty much his property. He owns business (the graham companies) and pays off inspectors to not give permits to companies and businesses that would compete with his (trust me, I know: when my dad was opening a restaurant near other restaurants that pay him to exist, it take a three year battle with the local permits office to even have the proper permits to open). I've heard that even the lakes in Miami Lakes are all named after female members of his family. Apparently, Bob Graham is too rich and too powerful around here to have to go through the same legal processes that everyone else has to go through. When he wants something, he just makes it happen. We KNOW there's no law against gathering on main street. That would be unconstitutional (right to assemble). And I'm gonna make sure everybody knows it. Fuck you, Bob Graham. |

You know what? Sometimes people have logical reasons for hyaving these rules. And everything else you say, pretty much everybody involved in politics is like that. They're all corrupt bastards. You can fight the systems as much as you want, but if he can satisfy the voters he'll remain in power. |

That's just the thing: he's not an elected official any more. He just owns Miami Lakes. And when I say he owns it, I mean he OWNS it. 9/10 business pay rent to him, he owns most of the land property or has owned it and sold it in the past, and he even owns streets and their surrounding properties! (like main street for example). That's the worst thing about this: it isn't just a small issue. Deciding whether this kind of thing is right or wrong is practically a decision that could change America or at least Florida, because that decision would have to involve a debate on whether someone could be allowed to own so much land, and even streets, that he's more powerful than even an elected official could be in that area. |

Dear Prudence

Oh, I'm so disillusioned. The media had me thinking only Republicans are evil and act that way, and Democrats are all saints righteously working for the country's downtrodden and disadvantaged. |
