Yeah it sucks cause I spent a weekend in Nashville last march when I wasn't really a big Johnny Cash fan and now that I am I read about all the stuff that happened in his life around places I was at, and it would've been a much better experience if I was as big a fan back then as I am now. |

As I was growing up, my father would listen to a great deal of Johnny Cash on our 8 track players. He had a few LPs but mainly when we would take our family vacations or just drivng "up to the farm", Johnny was on the radio so I was born with an inert appreciation for The Man In Black. Now that I am older, I have a better understanding of some of the emotions of his songs and voice and can say that he is my favorite country and western artist. I myself only posess about six Johnny Cash albums and five of those are compilations so I think I have a nice sample of his music throughout the years. He was a great musical artist and should be one of those musicians that probably the great majority of Americans know at least one of his songs. Regardless of if you have seen the portrayals of him in recent movies, I would wager that he was important enough and a great enough performer that most everyone knows something about Johnny Cash. |

The horns for Ring Of Fire came to him in a dream, further supporting my 'artists channel ideas from signals from the center of the universe' theory. |

I saw a part of 'Walk The Line' but I decided to stop watching it because I wanted to see it from the beginning. |

I always say that I don't like country music with the exception of Johnny Cash and Barbeque Stain by Tim Mcgraw (that's something I don't admit very often) |

It was kind of like that here. But where I live, you know, the South, there was always kind of a bigger fan base for him. But his popularity did sky rocket after the movie. And if that's the case, it hardly bothers me because it just means more people listening to good music. But as for me, Cash has been a part of my life since I was born. At first I always tried to rebel and tell my parents, "I hate country, Johnny who? This guy sucks." but I grew up and realized, about 4 or 5 years ago that I couldn't deny good music when I heard it. |

Well perhaps at least the good thing is that more people will take notice of his work. I understand your feelings of slight ownership; your feelings that you were a fan before the movie and everyone since is just looking for someone to admire. Perhaps many or most of us can be found guilty of things like this at some point. Commercials draw your attention to a product and you decide to buy even though some of your friends already buy this product. Maybe with the movies like "Walk The Line" this is a good thing. On a side note but a little relevant, some of you had not heard the phrase "muzak" or references until you notice the word in a John Lennon song and automatically it is a favorite derogatory inference. Names shall be withheld to protect me being banned, but I think we know some of the most common members responsible. But, yeah... I really enjoy Johnny Cash's music as stated somewhat earlier. Now listening to "Supernaut" - Black Sabbath |

Me too, and when I hear his music it activates again. Besides his more well-known songs, he also sang the theme song to the western series "Johnny Yuma" (starring the late Nick Adams). "Johnny Yuma was a rebel, He roamed through the west. Did Johhny Yuma, the rebel, He wandered alone. He searched the land, this restless lad. He was panther quick and leather tough, if he figured he'd been pushed enough, the rebel, Johnny Yuma..." I also get a kick out of the fact that most of his songs that had musical backing always had the same "ch-ch-chk, ch-ch-chk, ch-ch-chk..." back beat chugging along. And that great baritone, gravelly voice that sounded so authentic because he was authentic, the man had a tough life before on both sides of the law. |

I admit, I got into him because of the movie. My friend went to go see it and he started playing songs of Johnny Cash so I decided to give him a listen. |

I uh. Don't really like him..? He's okay but I don't know. His cover of "Hurt" is good, though. |
