Consider this: When the price of gasoline is high, some people were reconsidering there personal habits. They did not or could not afford spending so much on gas so they had to conserve a bit; maybe think about alternative fuel sources. When the price of gas is low, you don't need to think about it. Fill it up and go crazy regardless of the fuel economy of your vehicle. However, those who do not make as much money as some of us perhaps suffer greater. If gas prices are too high some people must go without. Some people have to find another way to get to work or heat the house this winter because of the price of crude oil. Conservation is key. Just because you can afford to waste resources doesn't me you should. Many of you do not yet have to worry about putting gas in your car. You don't even have a car. Some of you don't have to worry about how much water is going down the drain when you brush your teeth. You don't pay the water bill. (or you don't have teeth - shoudda brushed more often) But someday, perhaps the planet will suffer. Do you think high pricing of oil and other resources is incentive to conserve and research alternate fuels and benefits humanity? Do you think gas is gas and you got to have it so keep the price low and who care what crisis future generations may or may not face because of our waste? |

Yay I was the first to vote! The truth is that people tend to ignore a problem until it comes up and bites them in the arse (is that from Jaws? It's been running around in my head I can't figure out where it came from lol) So I really think that higher gas prices are better because it forces people to find an alternate to their expensive habits... I think we should really try to find different ways of getting places... some people don't seem to get that they don't need a hummer to get them from one place to another. |

I believe that crude oil will certainly become less and less accessible. Japan and particularly China are become more and more "westernized" shall we say. Their populations are drastically changing their culture and the old rituals and heritage are being swept away by the youth who are seeing their incomes increase. With an increase in income you can now obtain luxuries such as automobiles. More and more industry and lifestyle changes are developing in China and with a country of that size and population, oil will now always be subject to short supply. Of course gas prices are never going to be low again. Of course we must find alternative fuel sources as well as conserve all of our natural resources. I can think of about six billion reasons why. Every male and female on the planet. |

Precisely. And where are the jetcars and personal hovercraft they promised us in all the "Popular Mechanics" magazines of the 60's and 70's? As a young lad I was convinced that by the time I got my license we would be flying about in small jet assisted crafts. I think they could at least lower the speeds all those Billy Ray Bob Jrs. drive at Taladega and Daytona. (just kidding about the NASCAR - but I am disappointed in our present which is not at all like Pop Mech's future) |
