Love Will Tear Us Apart, Again

That post scared me shitless. Honestly, the average American voter sucks now BECAUSE of the corrupt politicians polarizing every issue and dividing the country, spreading lies etc. The day we lose in faith in democracy is the day democracy starts to fail. |

There's always been a reason the average American voter sucks. Yesterday it was communication. The voters weren't up to date at all on what the candidates were up to so their vote would be that of an uninformed outdated opinion. Today it's a different reason. It's the media, it's this or that. The point is, America has always been divided! Patriots/Loyalists, Ferderalsits/Anti-Federalists, Democratic Republicans/Federalists, North/South, Republicans/Democrats, etc etc. America has always been able to muddle through and get through things, devided or united, either way. We have the oldest lasting constitution and it's hugely in part due to the fact that we have been the same! The constitution is what we call a "living constitution", it can easily adapt to changing times, and it has. Sorry for getting all patriotic, but one last thing... You know, looking back on how devided we were, dragging Anti-Ferderalsit governors in to ratify the constitution at gun point, the Civil War, etc etc, I'd say things are better now than they've ever been! |

It didn't sound liek you were patriotic before. It sounded as if you were giving up. " Oh well, at least they're not as bad as regular voters. We'll deal." |

I know enough to be thankful that this is a representative democracy and not a direct one. |

ihateguitarists, i completely agree with you. very philosphical of you, we're learning about that in western culture/ philosophical and legal theory class. hobbes would like you. i agree that things arent "worse than ever" now because the politicians are somehow "MORE corrupt and evil". Politics has always been dirty because PEOPLE arent perfect. The corruption might be bad now, but just think throughout history!! in my opinion it was waaaaay worse. and i AM thankful for a representative form of democracy instead of a direct one. i mean look at the athenian democracy and how well it dealt with foreign affairs (sparta), legal matters (trial of socrates), etc. The founding fathers knew what the heck they were doing, and i'm glad. |
