i have noticed that kids today aren't as cool as kids were when i was little. i think a lot of it has to do with what they watch on tv and read. in the early '90s, nickelodeon was a great channel with shows like pete & pete, salute your shorts, and clarissa explains it all. today's programming sucks. it all about these pre-teen types of kids who want to be lindsay lohan. the shows just aren't as creative today. also, when i was little, kids grew up on books like the wayside school books. i don't know what they're reading now. probably books crappy celebrities wrote. also, i think they are too wussy. parents make everything into such a huge deal everytime a kid gets called a name these days. i mean, i know it's not cool to be bullied or beat up, but i think kids do need to experience some of this to grow up. they end up not knowing how to live in the real world and take care of themselves. edit- and i just thought of video games. they spend all of their time playing these. we did when i was little, too, but the games were crappier. these games now look so good that i think it's almost worse for the kids because it promotes a lack of imagination on their parts. that's a big problem with kids these days- lack of imagination. they don't go outside and make up their own games anymore. |

I agree with a lot of the things you say. The children tv programming today is CRAP. Saturday morning cartoons used to be AWESOME when I was little... and now? Notsomuch. But as far as reading goes, kids these days have Harry Potter, which is a fantastic series and inspires a lot of use of the imagination. J.K. Rowling did wonders for making reading popular again. And there is an amazing children's picture book called Tuesday by an author called David Wiesner that is very popular as well and rightly so. I do think there is a problem with not going outside these days. My grandmother runs a sort of daycare and has for years and over the years I've seen a steady progression of children not wanting to be outside for more than five minutes. But they really need the exercise, the vitamins from the sun, and like you said, to use their imaginations. But I don't see a problem with their use of advanced techology like the computer and video games. I think the more complicated it is to use these things, the more intelligent children are having to become in order to use them. |

Video Gmaes are cool. But there can be too much of a good thing. Which is why kids need to get out and uh.....yea. Exercise and shit.

I think more of myself as a song and dance man.

I have an average computer so I only play old games from like 4 years ago and before. Today's games don't really interest me that much. I agree with what you're saying though. Even I haven't read a good book for a while. For me, books have been replaced with music and the internet. |
