We all know this guy. We all know how great he is. What I don't really know is what people think of him.
Pete has always been considered one of the best songwriters the British Invasion gave us. Why do you think that is? What is his "style"? What are those little gems makes you really admire him as a songwriter?

Hate me, do it and do it again.
My favorite songwriter of all time. As Tom once said, everything he wrote was genius, from hits like "I Can See For Miles" to obscure classics like "Blue, Red and Grey".

I just bought the movie Tommy.... it was Ok hah I liked it and it had its moments. The only think that confused me was the ending, actually the ending of the album also confuses me.... my friends don't know anything about TOmmy so I've been with this doubt for quite some time. In the movie and the album why does all the followers dessert tommy, I've thought of some possible reasons but I'm not completely sure.... so why do you think it was?

From Wikipedia...

Wikipedia

Tommy's pinball prowess transforms him into a cult hero and many followers attend his holiday camps to find a new perspective on life. However, mercantile exploitation by Tommy's family and the tough and/or unreasonable demands of his cult cause the disciples to revolt against him and abandon him. His mother and stepfather are killed during the riot. Alone and abandoned by everybody, Tommy achieves a new enlightenment.

I personally think it's a great twist of events, and a wonderful way to end the movie.

The drugs don't work...
The only song I've heard from Pete Townshend is 'Let My Love Open The Door' and I really loved. It's probably one of my favorite songs of all time.

I'd be fed up if my idol told me the only way to achieve enlightment was by playing pinball...

Pete Townshend was not just a good songwriter, but he was also innovative and experimented with new electronic instruments. While the Beatles stopped really experimenting after 1967/1968 (yes, the Beatles used new electronic instruments on Abbey Road but it was neither groundbreaking nor impressive), Townshend took the lead with his use of electronic music producing the amazing sounds of "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again".

Townshend also wrote what might be the first real full scale rock operas. Tommy is well known, and it often (and possibly unfairly) overshadows the brilliant execution of the various themes running through Quadrophenia.

My favourite Townshend songs (that come to mind) are:
"I'm One" (from Quadrophenia)
"White City Fighting" (from "White City")
I speak good English. I learn it from a book.

I don't know if you know this, but he wrote most of the songs by the Who. The good ones, anyway.

Entwistle wrote quite a few good songs you know. "Cousin Kevin", "Boris the Spider" "Fiddle About", "My Wife" "Success Story" ..to name a few
