When I went to Cuba on the first night we went and sat in a cafe with loads of locals. These two friendly guys were sat next to us who spoke English pretty well so we started talking to em. One of them was pretty drunk. I asked him what Cuba was like and he started mouthing off about how much he hated Castro and how much the country sucked. His friend got really panicked nad stood up, trying to make him calm down, then he explained that you could get into serious trouble if you knocked Castro in public. There were armed police on every street corner to see to this. The next day we spoke to the person at reception and hired a driver they knew to take us round and show us the sights. When he arrived we started talking to him and he explained that he was actually a doctor, but he earned more money being a taxi driver for tourists, who pay him in American dollars, than as a Cuban doctor where he gets paid a basic wage in Cuban money. That pretty much summed up the country. It was fairly sad and depressing really. Once we drove out of Havana and into the country he showed us the house where Che Guevara's best mate lived. It was this massive fuck off mansion in the middle of nowhere with a swimming pool, which compared to the shacks ordinary Cubans were living in was just disgusting. |

I meant Cuban law. And Cuban law is flawed. The apple tree thing was just an example, but the fact that you're trying to belittle the event so much only proves to me that I'm right. I've lived under socialism before in Spain and it wasn't nearly as bad as communism, but it was still uncomfortable (even though I belong to the sacred proliterat). |

100% true. I am by no means pro Cuba.
Cuba arresting people for growing apple trees is just stupid. But, that doesn't prove Socialists are Cuba.
That's 'Proletariat', but, no matter. |

When George Washington was a small boy he chopped down his fathers charry tree. He told his father what he had done, and said sorry. |

I was referring to a previous post by Linda, which read:
I fail to see how I twisted anything around. |

I dont know about other places, but when Americans think of Democracy (generalization) we think of George Washington. Since he was the father of our country and all. Other people could think of the Athenians or something to that effect for all i know. |

I don't. America was founded as a republic, we've never really been a true democracy. |

the only way to be a true democracy is to have each person have their say, but we have reps because there are just to many people here for that. We try tho. I believe that really do try. |
