Brian's riff on The Last Time is amazing.

And how the fuck did he not get writing credit for Gomper? After Mick stops singing, it's basically all him with Charlie on tablas.

These are the credits for Gomper:

Vocals: Mick Jagger
Tabla: Charlie Watts
Other percussion: Brian Jones
Sitar, Sarod & Tamboura: Brian Jones
Flute: Brian Jones
Organ: Brian Jones
Guitar: Keith Richards
Backing Vocals:Keith Richards

So technically, there are moments when the only person playing is Brian aside from Keef on guitar and possibly Charlie, but the song is still credited to Jagger/Richards. It was so impossible for other people to get a writing credit on a Stones album that even covers have been "accidentally" credited to Jagger/Richards. Cunts.

Damn Jagger/Richards. Why?

Because almost all the royalties from 'Bittersweet Symphony' go to them. Probably the biggest hit by the Verve, and Jagger/Richards has to completely fuck it up for them.

I know. I read somewhere that they're like in the top 5 of the artists with the most worldwide number one singles, so why do they have to take away one of the only hits from another band because it supposedly ripped off a PIANO MELODY from the SYMPHONIC VERSION of a song?!

I have to say I like Brian Jones better just because I'm more familiar with the Stones music and I've never really been able to get into the Beach Boys surfer style.

You can completely ignore the Beach Boys' "surfer-style" music if you wanted to, and still be able to listen to great music. Anything from "The Beach Boys Today!" through "Surf's Up" (don't let the title fool you).
My Beatles Trading Post (Updated Regularly)

"George had just come off tour, I'd flown in specially from England, Ringo had flown in specially, too, I think, and John wouldn't show up! He wouldn't come from across the park! George got on the phone, yelled, 'Take those fucking shades off and come over here, you!' John still wouldn't come over. He had a balloon delivered with a sign saying, LISTEN TO THIS BALLOON. It was all quite far out." -Paul McCartney

I guess the thing that pissed me off the most about the Beach Boys is the way they practically re-wrote the same thing a hundred times. It's actually fitting that we're having this argument, cause last year my music teacher stood in front of the class and figured out the chord progressions to like over half of their greatest hits in like 15 minutes. He used it to show to the class how you could write a hit song with basic chords and use them again and again and people would still buy it. Not saying The Stones didn't do this, but it's particularly annoying with The Beach Boys because the melodies, subject matter, and harmonies are so similar to the song before and after the one you're listening to. At least with Pet Sounds, they added some variety to their sound, but one album that Wilson masterminded still doesn't out-do all the contributions Jones made from 1963 to 1969.

yes like that. then compare those two to good vibrations. big difference right? exactly my point. pre-1966 they were just as formulaic as today's pop bands.

maybe, but i don't see how they're the same yet. they sound alike, but is there like a site that analyzes the chord progressions or something?
