I made a topic about the Kinks on Shabby Road... now it's closed so I don't get the chance to talk about them anymore. So here it is again.fab band aren't they? Just a little something to discuss: do you think Arthur (or the decline and fall of the british empire) was the first rock opera?? |

Lola vs. Powerman part 1 is great, both music and lyrics-wise. |

I admit to being a rather shallow Kinks fan in that I do not have many of their albums but it is always good to hear their commercial hits as well. "Destroyer" and "Come Dancing" are two of my favorite songs but I do appreciate their early works as well. In the time before Hendrix, people like Jeff Beck and Dave Davies were leading music into power guitar riffs and the band itself at times had the "garage rock band" style as well as some eastern religion pieces. As I say, I have a compilation disc of their '60's and '70's stuff but my favorite Kinks album is "Word Of Mouth". For the past several months I check around for inexpensive copies of "Phobia" because I cannot get the song "Hatred" out of my head. The Kinks will forever leave an indelible mark on rock and roll music. |

I have: Face to Face Something Else by the Kinks The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society Lola vs. the Powerman vs. the Money-Go-Round, Pt. 1 Muswell Hillbillies Everybody's In Showbiz The Kinks Present a Soap Opera One for the Road [live] LP Wow. I didn't realize I had so many. That was back in my old downloading binges. - except for The Kinks Present a Soap Opera and One for the Road, which my dad has.

I would recomend Arthur. It's a great album. I love The Kinks. After The Beatles, they may be my favorite. I have: The Village Green... Arthur Something Else Lola They're great, really. Ray Davies is a fantastic writer. His thoughts are so complex. |

Yes! Get Arthur! Also I recommend the Kink Kontroversy. It's an early album of their career, definetly not their best work, but still it's very enjoyable. A complete rocker. |

Thanks for the information Jeff. I stand corrected then I always had the doubt of which one came in first. Both are great albums, but like Beatlemanic I prefer Arthur. |

Yeah. It really is great. Everything from that point on is really fast-paced. Actually, I just review Arthur today... |

I just listened to The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society, and I just realized how good they are again. Now, I'm listening to Something Else By The Kinks, and as the second track, "Death Of A Clown", comes on, I couldn't help but notice - Does anybody else think that the intro and throughout the song, sounds like "With A Little Help From My Friends"?

It does, actually. I never liked "Death of a Clown". I guess I'm not a Dave Davies fan. |
