Uh, I'm going to revive this topic. If Drummerboy puts a newer like to that song, I'll review it. But for now, I'm giving you a song called "Stockholm Syndrome" by Muse. I've been starting to love this song a lot since I finally really listened to their third album, Absolution. I hope you enjoy it, too. This is the last time I'll forget you... |

Okay. Muse. I'd have to admit that I thought they'd be a sucky-ass pop/rock band. I don't know why. Maybe because you liked them. Just kidding. But now, that I have listened to this Muse song, "Stockholm Syndrome", and I've come to realize that they are capable of making good songs. The song started out, and my immediate reaction was, "It sounds like recent Rush." Perhaps something like "Driven" from Test For Echo or a track off of Vapor Trails. All three instruments are in and it has a nice rock beat. Then the vocals come in. They are good, but I guess on this song, he seems like he is whining or something. I don't know, exactly. Maybe it sounds like he's out of breath? I liked the chorus. Maybe I'll check them out sometime. 8.5/10 Here's a song. I hope you like it. The Specials - Ghost Town |

The beginning reminded me of like an old video game song, where you're at a level filled with pyramids, more than a ghost town. The vocals weren't exactly my favorite, sounded like a punk-rock singer trying to do reggae in the middle section, and the deeper voice was sort of.. weird, haha. The part with all the weird witch voices reminded me of Yoko Ono, haha. An alright song, but... not my favorite, haha. 5/10 or so. Pete Townshend's "Rough Boys". |

Nice little rocker from Pete, the genius, of the Who. It had a late-Who vibe. A cool track. A little lacking in the riff department, though. 7/10 ***ANNOUNCEMENT*** I will be posting all of the tracks from the Rush album, A FAREWELL TO KINGS, one at a time, as my song to post in this topic. There are six in total. It is your job to download them all, and complete the album. I am doing this to get it done faster, and see your first thoughts of each track. I am talking to you, Dean. It is possible for anybody else to acquire the album from me via FREE MUZAK, but nobody will even come to this topic. Hopefully, I am wrong, and ten people (the YouSendIt limit) will be able to hear, what I consider, one of the best albums of all-time. Now, the title track, A Farewell To Kings. |

The acoustic intro reminded me of "Trees", it sounds like the same type of guitar. Liked the synth type deal that came in with it, as well. Great little beginning, then it turns into a very Rush sounding song with guitar overdubs over the guitar chords and everything, then a mini-solo, and hello Geddy. I haven't read the lyrics yet so I can't comment on those. But obviously great vocals, guitar work and drums. Besides the intro and ending, it was your average Rush song, awesome solo and all that good stuff. I'll give it a 9. A song from Muse's latest, titled Exo-Politics, so to keep it legal. ;P |

Exo-Politics gets 8/10. I can barely understand what the guy is saying for most of the verses, but the chorus (I think it's the chorus) sounds pretty good. The guitar solo is awesome. The vocals are very good and the drum playing is very good, and the whole song is just under 4 minutes which is good for a song like this. All in all, it's a very catchy tune and is definitely worthy of a good score. Once again... Here's a song I am completely in love with. It's called 'My One And Only Love'. This version is a Jazz version from John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman. It begins with John Coltrane playing the melody with his Sax (I think it's a sax). He plays throughout two verses, the bridge, and another verse before Johnny Hartman begins to sing. His voice adds to the mood and feeling of the song and gives it a very tender touch. Hope you like it! John Coltrane (Ft. Johnny Hartman) - My One And Only Love |

8/10 - Great slow ballad. Excellent sax by trane as always. The bass player and the pianist are also very good. The vocalist is undoubtebly a good singer, although I don't really like his style. Great melody though. Nice subtle brush drumming. Overall a very good song. This song is called Hard Road, by Sam Roberts. He's a canadian rock singer/songwriter and this is one of his most popular songs. It has enough catchy hooks to fill a tackle box. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?acti...54BEC927DBBE7AE |

Sorry, Dirty_Mac, I've had the song for a while but never got around to listening to it 'till today. 9/10. It sounds a country, or it has a country influence. The electric guitar plays a mean riff and sounds like something good ol' George Harrison would play. It's a very goos song, not too much heavy rock, and not too light either, it's just right and easy to listen to. Good song. It reminds me of the song 'Any Road'. |

Oh, right. This is one of my new favorite songs. I discovered it when I saw the video late at night on VH1 Insomnia (I think) and I absolutely loved the song, as well as the video. It's a simple song, kinda folkish, and Dylan-y in a way. Just a singer and his acoustic guitar. Death Cab For Cutie - I'll Follow You Into The Dark |

A month and a half.
The bad part is that I downloaded the Death Cab For Cutie track when Frankie posted it over a month ago. I'm just so damn lazy. It must've been that I didn't have any interest in listening to it.Well, I listened to it, and I must say, it's pretty decent. The guy's voice is pretty good, but I usually like tracks with many instruments and parts. This just seemed to be the same thing for three minutes. It seemed like he just kept on saying "If heaven and hell decide" or something. Not much melody. Maybe this is just my first reaction from one listen. I'd give it a 5/10. If you are familiar with The Platters, you probably know this song. It's pretty famous, but maybe this can make you explore the genre a little more. The Platters - Only You (And You Alone) |

I like it. I really like those oldies songs with the backup 'Ooohs' and the very simple playing by the musicians part. The guy who sings the song does a really good job. It's got a great melody. 7/10 --------------------------------------- The song Im posting up is 'The Drugs Don't Work'. It's definitely my favorite song of all time. It has a special meaning to me. It's a lost Gem of the British Invasion of the 90's. This song is highly overlooked due in part to the Verve's major hit, 'Bittersweet Symphony', which was released on 'Urban Hymns', the same album as this song. I personally, think 'The Drugs Don't Work' is a better song by a long shot. Richard Ashcrofts vocals are really amazing. Nick mcCabe and Simon Tong do a fantastic job on guitar, and the strings are really haunting. Hope you like it. The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work |
