I can't get enough of artists that write songs that I can relate to. And since I can't write amazing poetry like some members here, this is the best stuff I have. Bob Dylan is one of those artists that really speaks to me. I just feel so attuned to this song right now from his 1975 album Blood on the Tracks. I couldn't believe how well he gets these (my) feelings down. Please read these lyrics. They may change your whole perspective, especially if you've been in love and/or depressed. Buckets of Rain "Buckets of rain Buckets of tears Got all them buckets comin' out of my ears. Buckets of moonbeams in my hand, You got all the love, honey baby, I can stand. I been meek And hard like an oak I've seen pretty people disappear like smoke. Friends will arrive, friends will disappear, If you want me, honey baby, I'll be here. I like your smile And your fingertips I like the way that you move your lips. I like the cool way you look at me, Everything about you is bringing me Misery. Little red wagon Little red bike I ain't no monkey but I know what I like. I like the way you love me strong and slow, I'm takin' you with me, honey baby, When I go. Life is sad Life is a bust All ya can do is do what you must. You do what you must do and ya do it well, I do it for you, honey baby, Can't you tell?" It's amazing. It's like he's writing to/for me. Absolutely one of the most beautiful songs ever made. Anyhew, what are some of your favorite song lyrics/quotes? |

Need I say more? So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skys from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade Your heros for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here. |

this is one of my fave songs in the world Fake Plastic Trees By Radiohead Her Green plastic watering can For her fake chinese rubber plant In fake plastic earth. That she bought from a rubber man In a town full of rubber plans. Just to get rid of itself. And It Wears Her Out, it wears her out It wears her out, it wears her out. She lives with a broken man A cracked polystyrene man Who just crumbles and burns. He used to do surgery For girls in the eighties But gravity always wins. And It Wears Him Out, it wears him out It wears him out, it wears him out. She looks like the real thing She tastes like the real thing My Fake Plastic Love. But I can't help the feeling I could blow through the ceiling If I just turn and run And It Wears Me Out, it wears me out It wears me out, it wears me out. And if I could BE who you wanted If I could BE who you wanted, All the time, all the time, ohhh... ohh... |
| My body is a cage. That keeps me from dancing with the one I love, but my mind holds the key. | |

We Have A Remedy Fa la la la la la Fa la la la la Fa la la la la la Fa la la la la We have a remedy You'll appreciate No need to be so sad He's only late We'll bring you flowers and things Help pass your time We'll give him eagle's wings Then he can fly to you Fa la la la la la Fa la la la la Fa la la la la la Fa la la la la Fa la la la la la Fa la la la la la We have a remedy Fa la la la la la la We have a remedy Fa la la la la la la We have a remedy Fa la la la la la la We have a remedy Fa la la la la la la (spoken) We have a remedy. Better be nice to an old engine driver Better be nice to an old engine driver V. Soon Be Home We'll soon be home We'll soon be home We'll soon We'll soon, soon, soon be home We'll soon be home We'll soon be home We'll soon We'll soon, soon, soon be home Come on, old horse Soon be home Soon be home Soon We'll soon, soon, soon be home We'll soon We'll soon, soon, soon be home We'll soon be home Soon be home ... Am I back in your arms? Away from all harm? It's like a dream to be with you again Can't believe that I'm with you again I missed you and I must admit I kissed a few and once did sit On Ivor the Engine Driver's lap And later with him, had a nap You are forgiven, you are forgiven, you are forgiven ... You are forgiven! |

Say, yes they know that you fought yourself another time Don't they know that you're full of pain already? Yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time Decadence isn't easy, is it? Yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time Don't they know that you're full of pain already? Yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time Decadence isn't easy, is it? Then you slowly recall all your mind Why, your soul's gone cold, and all hope has run dry Dead inside Never enough to forget that you're one of the lonely Slowly recall all your mind Say, yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time Don't they know that you're full of pain already? Yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time Decadence isn't easy, is it? Yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time Don't they know that you're full of pain already? Yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time Decadence isn't easy... Then you slowly recall all your mind Why, your soul's gone cold, and all hope has run dry Dead inside Never enough to forget that you're one of the lonely Slowly recall all your mind If I scare you now Don't run from me I've been hiding my pain, you see Said if I scare you now Don't run from me I've been hiding my pain, you see Slowly recall all your mind Why, your soul's gone cold, and all hope has run dry Dead inside Never enough to forget that you're one of the lonely Slowly recall all your mind Slowly recall all your mind Say, yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time Don't they know that you're full of pain already? Yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time Decadence isn't easy, is it? |

Led Zeppelin - The Battle of Evermore Queen of Light took her bow, And then she turned to go, The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom, And walked the night alone. Oh, dance in the dark of night, Sing to the morning light. The dark Lord rides in force tonight, And time will tell us all. Oh, throw down your plow and hoe, Rest not to lock your homes. Side by side we wait the might of the darkest of them all. I hear the horses' thunder down in the valley blow, I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon, waiting for the eastern glow. The apples of the valley hold, The seeds of happiness, The ground is rich from tender care, Repay, do not forget, no, no. Dance in the dark of night, sing to the morning light. The apples turn to brown and black, The tyrant's face is red. Oh the war is common cry, Pick up you swords and fly. The sky is filled with good and bad that mortals never know. Oh, well, the night is long the beads of time pass slow, Tired eyes on the sunrise, waiting for the eastern glow. The pain of war cannot exceed the woe of aftermath, The drums will shake the castle wall, the ring wraiths ride in black, Ride on. Sing as you raise your bow, shoot straighter than before. No comfort has the fire at night that lights the face so cold. Oh dance in the dark of night, Sing to the morning light. The magic runes are writ in gold to bring the balance back. Bring it back. At last the sun is shining, The clouds of blue roll by, With flames from the dragon of darkness, the sunlight blinds his eyes. |

From Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part V Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond. Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky. Shine on you crazy diamond. You were caught on the cross fire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze. Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine! |

This is one of those things where I read things into lyrics that may or may not actually be there. But I think "Visions of Johanna" by Bob Dylan is in my top three true lyrical, poetic masterpieces that I can identify with, along with "Strawberry Fields Forever". In the song, Dylan describes his interaction and viewing of a random night of mediocrity in a metropolis. He uses some of, if not the, best poetry I've ever heard to describe it all. It's all surreal imagery that goes right to your mind. Everything seems so pointless and boring to him, since the one and only thing he can think about is Johanna, this unattainable figure whom he desires and loves. Whenever I hear the lyrics, I get the feeling that it all relates to me since I have a strange and weary way of viewing things that go around me in the world, like the narrator. Everything seems almost pointless to me, except for the few singular things and people I REALLY care about (the Johanna person in my life, if you will). Anyway, here's this if you haven't seen the lyrics before: Visions of Johanna "Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're trying to be so quiet? We sit here stranded, though we're all doing our best to deny it And Louise holds a handful of rain, tempting you to defy it Lights flicker from the opposite loft In this room the heat pipes just cough The country music station plays soft But there's nothing, really nothing to turn off Just Louise and her lover so entwined And these visions of Johanna that conquer my mind In the empty lot where the ladies play blindman's bluff with the key chain And the all-night girls they whisper of escapades out on the "D" train We can hear the night watchman click his flashlight Ask himself if it's him or them that's insane Louise, she's all right, she's just near She's delicate and seems like the mirror But she just makes it all too concise and too clear That Johanna's not here The ghost of 'lectricity howls in the bones of her face Where these visions of Johanna have now taken my place Now, little boy lost, he takes himself so seriously He brags of his misery, he likes to live dangerously And when bringing her name up He speaks of a farewell kiss to me He's sure got a lotta gall to be so useless and all Muttering small talk at the wall while I'm in the hall Oh, how can I explain? It's so hard to get on And these visions of Johanna, they kept me up past the dawn Inside the museums, Infinity goes up on trial Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues You can tell by the way she smiles See the primitive wallflower freeze When the jelly-faced women all sneeze Hear the one with the mustache say, "Jeeze I can't find my knees" Oh, jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule But these visions of Johanna, they make it all seem so cruel The peddler now speaks to the countess who's pretending to care for him Saying, "Name me someone that's not a parasite and I'll go out and say a prayer for him" But like Louise always says "Ya can't look at much, can ya man?" As she, herself, prepares for him And Madonna, she still has not showed We see this empty cage now corrode Where her cape of the stage once had flowed The fiddler, he now steps to the road He writes ev'rything's been returned which was owed On the back of the fish truck that loads While my conscience explodes The harmonicas play the skeleton keys and the rain And these visions of Johanna are now all that remain." |

sure it's paul simon's best known song and gets a ton of radio play but the lyrics are amazing every time i hear it. Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turn my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared No one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools," said I, "you do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sound of silence |

I was thinking of that one as well. That song is absolutely amazing <3 Mine has got to be - Paul McCartney's - 'Follow Me' =) You lift up my spirits, you shine on my soul Whenever I'm empty, you make me feel whole I can rely on you, to guide me through, any situation You hold up a sign that reads, follow me. You give me direction, you show me the way You give me a reason, to face every day I can depend on you, to send me to, any destination You hold up a sign that reads, follow me, follow me. Down the track of lonelines, down the path of love Through the words of heartache, to the end On the shores of sorrow, where the waves of hope crash in The perfect place for me to find a friend. ahh yeah yeah yeah, oh You lead me to places, that I've never been Uncovering secrets, that I've never seen I can rely on you, to guide me through, any situation You hold up a sign that reads, follow me, follow me, Follow me, follow me, Follow me, follow me |

Love Will Tear Us Apart, Again
|
One of my fav Who songs.... Behind Blue Eyes By The Who No one knows what it’s like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes No one knows what it’s like To be hated To be fated To telling only lies But my dreams They aren’t as empty As my conscience seems to be I have hours, only lonely My love is vengeance That’s never free No one knows what it’s like To feel these feelings Like I do And I blame you No one bites back as hard On their anger None of my pain and woe Can show through But my dreams They aren’t as empty As my conscience seems to be I have hours, only lonely My love is vengeance That’s never free When my fist clenches, crack it open Before I use it and lose my cool When I smile, tell me some bad news Before I laugh and act like a fool If I swallow anything evil Put your finger down my throat If I shiver, please give me a blanket Keep me warm, let me wear your coat No one knows what it’s like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes |
