MCR covering Billy Joel would be pretty hilarious though.

Almost as hilarious as the Metal Tribute to Coldplay album I saw today.

Tell me you bought it.

It was on iTunes and I don't have enough money, but I'm thinking of buying some of the songs and laughing my ass off for like six hours.

You should. Then send them to me.

Great album openers are great in the sense that they are great songs, but if you think about it, if the first song is the best on the album, within five minutes of putting on the album, you know that you've heard the best of the album, so the rest will be considerably less great compared to the opener, even though the rest of the album can be awesome.

That was one sentence.

I know this is cliche and typical Bungalow Bill, but I think "Take it All" from Straight Up, in it's simplistic beauty, sucks you into the album and makes you want to listen to the whole thing. That is the most important function of an opening track, and it pulls it off brilliantly.

It also helps that the next two tracks kick complete ass.

Atom Heart Mother is a great opener to the album of the same name.

Hate me, do it and do it again.
"Knights of Cydonia" by Muse is probably the best air-guitaring song of this decade, and their only really strong closer thus far. Yesterday I had it up so loud when I went to the basement to feed my cat I could still hear it and it's one of the most epic and rocking tunes in forever. Top 10 on my list of closers.
