Love Will Tear Us Apart, Again

I say Jimi Hendrix. This man revoltuionized the guitar. He invented so many different sounds and took effects such as the Wah-Wah Pedal and Fuzz Box toa whole new level. Just listen to "Third Rock From The Sun, "The Star Spangled Banner" and "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) and you'll understand his innovation there. Also, the man could do so mnay different syles and his solos were mind blowing. "Red House," "Purple Haze," "The Wind Cries Mary" are all examples of this. Hell, this man could play with his teeth! After Hendrix, nothing was impossible in terms of creative energy with the elctric guitar. |

Pete Townshend was my first guitar hero. When I heard him play that opening riff of I Can't Explain... well, I can't explain how I felt. This was only in around January, I got Then and Now!, it was my first non-Beatle album I laid money on, and I never regret. Watching him at Woodstock, the Isle of Wight, even now, at Live 8, he's an excellent showsmen for guitar. He also got me into the Gibson SG, my favorite guitar (which of I proudly own). And he's a damn excellent writer, right behind Lennon/McCartney for most influential on me. *Way* Behind him is George Harrison, then Robby Kriger. |

I think Brian May is very underrated. He's not as good as Hendrix or anything, but he's an honourable mention. |

The best there for me is Hendrix. HOWEVER, my favorite is another story. You can proebely all guess, but I find his work amazing , like playing on all those epic songs of 17 mins plus is jsut amazing and not making it sound boring at all and all those damn great guitar solos. |

I say Robby. Might not be the most dextrous guitar player like Jimi or Jimmy or any of the other people on that page for that matter, but he manages to make the guitar interact with Jim's poetry really well. Right behind him is Steve Howe, guitarist for Yes, who OUGHT TO BE ON THAT LIST >:i |

Gregg Allman didn't play guitar in his band, it was Duane Allman, who is like God. |

The drugs don't work...

I would have said BB King and Eric Clapton. They just play a real mellow lead guitar, and Jimi Hendrix sounds like he is playing random shit. Regardless, Jimi is still the only guitarist that I have seen to play with his mouth or teeth or tongue or whatever he uses. |

Brian May is always very underrated. Much better guitarist than about one quarter of the others on the list including Townsend and Harrison, really. Great melodies and harmonies in his chords and he could play some sizzling riffs when the song needed it. |

Left of the list are two of the very best, first Dimebag Darrell, one of the very best to pick up the axe, as well missed is Randy Rhoads, Ozzy's first solo guitarist. Randy infused classical guitar into very innovative rock songs, and Dimebag, listen to any Pantera song, and tell me he isn't the very best and Beatlematt, ur right, i love how brian may has the most distinct guitar sound of any while i'm at it, Alex Lifeson of rush fame is also ignored on this list |
