I have a tough time deciding between Are You Experienced and Velvet Underground & Nico.

Probably RUX...

I too refuse to count solo beatles albums. That being said:

The best record historically is probably The Doors (my second favorite) or Led Zeppelin 1 (up there).

My favorite record is Definitely Maybe by Oasis, which is not mentioned although it was the fastest selling debut ever in England for ten years and still the best selling.

THE JANITOR
For me, the obscure Rainmakers released the best debut album. Every song on the album was an instant hit with me and still today, all the songs on the album are great.
There are some really great first releases from great bands on the list but there is only one in my mind that was/is so completely enjoyable to me. I could listen to any of the albums on the list and be satisfied but "The Rainmakers" always leaves me wanting to hear it again.

i still say the velvet underground & nico, although are you experienced? is very close. ultimately, it's kind of a tie.

Are You Experienced? is a great album, but the bad thing is you needed every song from the US and UK releases for it to be definetive, in my opinion. But it's brilliant for '67.

I still have to go with the brilliant Piper. In The Court Of The Crimson King comes in second, then The Doors.

I voted ATMP. It feels a little like cheating, since the guy just came off the greatest band of all time, but it's an option, so I'll vote it. In my opinion it's the best of all the choices.
My Beatles Trading Post (Updated Regularly)

"George had just come off tour, I'd flown in specially from England, Ringo had flown in specially, too, I think, and John wouldn't show up! He wouldn't come from across the park! George got on the phone, yelled, 'Take those fucking shades off and come over here, you!' John still wouldn't come over. He had a balloon delivered with a sign saying, LISTEN TO THIS BALLOON. It was all quite far out." -Paul McCartney

Peter Gabriel's debut (his first of four self titled albums) is one of the few flawless albums I've heard in a while. I was cleaning my terribly messy computer room and it came on album shuffle, this is probably my seventh or so time listening to it. I should upload it for the Christmas Exchange, it's a great prog-pop album.

Piper At The Gates of Dawn is pretty bad if you ask me. It doesn't really compare with the other ones up there (except for Ringo...wtf?).
