Roger actually put some of the post-Roger garbage on there? And I don't believe Roger would have willingly put the Great Shit in the Sky on there, seeing as he hated it. And I honestly believe there would have been more of the Wall and Animals on there if Roger had picked it...

"The Great Gig in the Sky"
(idea) by Uberfetus (1.7 y) (print) ? Fri Jun 09 2000 at 2:56:01

Roger Waters: bass guitar
Dave Gilmour: Stratocaster guitars
Nick Mason: drums
Rick Wright: Steinway piano, Hammond organ
Clare Torry: vocal improvisation
Doris Troy, Lesley Duncan, Liza Strike, Barry St. John, Jerry Driscoll, Roger the Hat: backing vocals
Unknown Female: spoken section

A beautiful, mournful piano tune written by Rick Wright. The theme is death, as one could surmise from the title, but a peaceful, quiet death as opposed to a violent one. After adding in bass, drums, organ, and guitar, Roger Waters still felt that the tune was missing something. So he brought in vocalist Clare Torry and directed her wordless singing much like a conductor handles an orchestra. The result is one of the most mesmerizing, gentle songs in the Floyd canon.

Song Review by Stewart Mason
The centerpiece track of Dark Side of the Moon and one of the most chilling pieces of music Pink Floyd ever produced, "The Great Gig in the Sky" is at its base a simple piano-based instrumental written by keyboardist Rick Wright. A somber piece with a funereal feel, its working title during the album's gestation was "the religious sequence" and early live versions incorporated tapes of sermons, but it wasn't until very late in the album's six-month recording sessions, as the album was finally being finished, that Roger Waters suggested a vocal part to enliven it. Claire Torry, an EMI staff songwriter and session vocalist suggested by engineer Alan Parsons, was brought in for a single Sunday session and improvised a melody line of wordless vocals that simultaneously evoke sexual ecstasy and the wailing of a banshee. The addition of a David Gilmour slide guitar part echoing Torry's vocals is a more subtle but equally effective final touch.

WOOT! I like that. I'd say that is grounds for placing on a best-of.

Well, actually it was not only Roger, but it was a vote between them waht they should put on it. Rick and Roger only chose their own tracks....XD.

Nah, it's still horrible. The vocals are annoying. And, plus, it would throw off the evenness I had. I put half of the wall, and half of darkside. And if I was gonna pick another song to add from Darkside, that would be the last one i'd pick. I'd actually try to find a GOOD song to put on there, but the problem is, i'd be searching a long time... XD

I admit, the vocals are OK, until around 1:40, and 2:10 ish, that's the part that makes me hate this song..

ps: the two best parts of the great gig in the sky are the first minute, and the ending XD
