It's rated too highly now. It's always Dark Side this, and Dark Side that it's just annoying hearing about the album so god-damn much. Besides that it's good, but it isn't the masterpiece everyone calls it. It's just annoying always seeing everything always being about Dark Side when there are better albums. It's sad when people say they're PF fans and that Dark Side is the best and that's the only album they've heard.

Sounds like you're UNDER-rating it because of its overratedness.

But basically, I disagree with that. I do think it's the best starting point for fans and I do think it is ultimately the best of Pink Floyd's work that they will come across. This is in fact the reason why it's so popular and played everywhere. It can appeal to anyone all over the world. Question is, why do people tend to dislike an album more if it is generally so popular?

That last sentance - Tom, you've said what I've wanted to say in one sentance. Why do people hate something because everyone likes it? Nobody overrated GGITS, Eric, so why don't you like that?

Liking a mainstream album doesn't make you the devil, I like a lot of mainstream albums. Just because something is played on the radio just means it's got a catchy beat millions of people like. I bet if you had a song played on the radio that much, you'd be overjoyed.

GGITS isn't overrated I never said it was. I just don't like the screaming. I said the album, AS A WHOLE is overrated.

Eric, I have some good news and some bad news.

The good news is my dad has The Wall LP

The bad news... notice I said LP, not LPs. Someone stole one of the discs.

dark side of the moon.
i find it so strange that people put this album down all the time. it makes no sense to me. people who think they know music so well put this album down because people who don't like it. but, really, that just shows that the people who think they know so much are obviously missing out. in my opinion, this is the most perfect album ever recorded. although the beatles are my favorite band, this is my favorite album.
it is absolutely perfect from start to finish. pink floyd were at the absolute height of their greatness. the way the music to breath sweeps in... have you ever heard anything like that? it really blows my mind. roger's lyrics are absolutely perfect. they are so simple, yet mean so much. and that's the hardest thing to do. but he does it so well that it seems absolutely effortless. i have never before heard another album that flows so well. it feels almost like all of these songs are one big song with many different parts. it really is like taking a journey every time you listen to it, as retarded as that might sound. it is absolutely beautiful. anyone who writes it off is clearly missing the point.

Or perhaps they don't like it as much as you? Anyone who puts it down as compared to other Floyd albums or other albums in general has heard it and decided that it doesn't suit their tastes as well as something else.

I'm tired of people telling me I don't get something if I don't feel the same way they do. I don't really like All Things Must Pass at all, I obviously haven't heard it or I don't get it or some bullshit. I get it, I've heard it, I just don't like it.

Ok, this doesn't happen much

But Sean..I agree with you, completely..especially that first part. That first part describes me, perfectly.

there's a difference between not liking something and stating your opinion like that or saying it flat-out sucks.

and i truly believe most great art has to be "gotten" to its full potential to be really appreciated. all art begins with a person or a group who had a singular vision for it. i'm sure you've heard all things must pass, but you're not hearing the thing that makes other people like it. they "get" that thing.

by the way, i'm just curious. what don't you like about all things must pass? it's just a collection of well-written songs, there's no thematic unity thing or anything like that to really get into.
