Well booo to you to!

I swear this album holds the meaning to life in it somwhere. It's so powerful. It makes me like go "Whoa" every time I hear it. Orgasmic. My favorite non-Beatles album ever.

I've always attributed the meaning of life album to The Doors.

Or some Morrison-related thing. That guy was onto something.

I admit i've listened to it twice today, and it's growing on me a bit, but i still think Great Gig sucks and Any Colour You Like is boring as hell, other than that it's a good album. Good, but overrated as hell

Definitely WYWH.

I find it funny that Eric keeps dissing DSOTM by calling it mainstream and overrated.

All of the poser Floyd kids at my school seem to all say that The Wall is the best album.

GREAT GIG <33333333
ANY COLOR YOU LIKE <333333333

ACYL is my favorite on that album. You evil person >:o

But I do agree with him that DSOTM is indeed mainstream, overrated, and all this other bullshit that I like to call it. It just is. Piper, SoS and Meddle all have a surrealistic quality to them that I don't think DSOTM could ever match. End of.

I see guys and chicks at my school always going to me saying "lawl I lyk Pink Floyd too, Dark Side is their best :FFF". And then I nail the little fuckers by going "Have you ever heard their debut album?"

Answer: "Isn't Dark Side their debut? D:"

Any Colour You Like still rocks my socks. I still remember when Dean said something like "Great Gig sucks, even an 80 year old grandma rapist can sing that." Gold.

Great Gig DOES suck, and ACYL is boring, but yeah it's so mainstream and overrated. In my opinion, Piper is wayyyy better in every way. To be fair, the Wall is a tad overrated (because of Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2 and Comfortably Numb) but it's nowhere near as overrated as Dark Side, IMO

on a different note, Atom Heart Mother and A Saucerful of Secrets are so underrated

Everything is overrated, if you really think about it. Nothing can possibly appeal to us now as it did when it was released.

That's why all these "massively overrated" albums are so overrated. But when they were released, they were really something else. That's what it all comes down to. It's overrated because it was massively influential and life-changing at the time of release: 1973. Obviously something went totally right with The Dark Side of the Moon or it wouldn't still be on the fucking Billboard charts.

What exactly defines overrated, though? Is it sales of an album? Radio airplay? Rating of critics? As far as I know, the album wasn't rated too highly when it came out. Furthermore, what is the big deal with something being under- or overrated? Why is an album bashed more if it's overrated? If you truly love an album, what does it all matter?

I tend to focus more on the music itself, and I think that at this time in 1973 Pink Floyd got it perfect. TDSotM isn't necessarily mainstream, either. It's just honing of things that they were building up on in the early 70s. Obscured By Clouds is almost the same record, yet it's considered UNDERrated. And it's clearly inferior to TDSotM. Hell, mainstream just means more musically concordant with people, anyway. Why act like something is wrong with that word? "Good album, but it's mainstream." Why would that bring it down? If there was no mainstream, music would just be a mash of "Sister Ray"'s and "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfasts"'s. There needs to be a balance.

So this I will never understand. Immediate dislike of the mainstream and overrated. What I will understand, though, is the greatness of the album and WHY it's sold so much and WHY it's rated so highly. It's just absolutely brilliant music-making. And that's what it's all about. Pink Floyd's best work.

Done with long, boring, confusing rant. At least it clears my mind up.

It's rated too highly now. It's always Dark Side this, and Dark Side that it's just annoying hearing about the album so god-damn much. Besides that it's good, but it isn't the masterpiece everyone calls it. It's just annoying always seeing everything always being about Dark Side when there are better albums. It's sad when people say they're PF fans and that Dark Side is the best and that's the only album they've heard. I tend to stray away from the mainstream material becuase most of the songs aren't worth all the praise they get (Another Brick, Part 2, Money, Comfortably Numb) and you hear them in other places enough to last a fuckin' lifetime.

Hate me, do it and do it again.
The Zeppelin song, Stairway to Heaven is about as mainstream as it gets, and it's still a musical masterpiece...

Stairway bothers me when people are like "oh my god i love Zeppelin, Stairway 2 Hevin iz grate" and when you ask if they've heard any other songs "No" or they struggle to name a few.

But yeah it's a great song

Comfortably Numb bloody owns with that guitar solo. I know you don't think much of it, but its great. Not too fancy or long..it isnt as showy as it could have been...The Vocals are great and the lyrics are not too bad.

Money is a good song, the lyrics are so simple and straight to the point. They are also so well delivered vocally, the vocals are great. The fact that the lyruics are so simple makes them so effective and thats why its so good....That bass line is wonderful and the time pattern is so unusual and then all of a sudden bang it chnages and its a sax solo that melts into a guitar solo and it seems at a point that they all melt together...those little bits of speaking too create such an atmosphere.

I can never imagine ABITW 1 or 3 being a single because they are so within the context of the album that they wouldn't go as well on the market. I dont care if these are the onyl floyd songs people know, becasue at least they know some and if they like it good on them becasue they are apprectaing good music at least. Whether they like them as much as me or know all the unknown songs does not effect how i listen to the music so i dont really care becasue it does not take away the experiance of what the music does for me.

So many typos.

They're all good songs no doubt about it, but with ABITW p2, they could have easily released another song as a single, I mean like Young Lust backed with maybe..Hey You..i dunno, just something different. Comfortably Numb is pretty good, I just growy weary of it, same with Money
