ODIN'S COURT
Human Life In Motion

ProgRock 2011

Aw, come on! I mean how prog is that! Odin' Court? "Human Life In Motion"? And, wait, there's more. Because "Human Life In Motion" is a concept album. Oh, yes. Deep breath.

It's a concept album with an introspective look at the individual's life and mind. Each song deals with a primary human emotion and takes the listener on a journey through a range of feelings and textures. Main man Matt Brookins says; "While (the last Odin's Court album) "Deathanity" was philosophical and macro in scope, "Human Life in Motion" is more introspective and personal, dealing with the human mind and experiences." So, now you know.

And it's rather good. The US progsters err on the prog metal side of things without tipping over into the world of widdle, but it's when they calm things down a bit, that you think to yourself that they might have a Porcupine Tree future. Songs like 'Blacktop Southbound' and 'Red Glow Dreaming' really do open you up to the internals of humanity, as they're rich in texture, subtle in arrangement and though provoking.

I'd like to see them work with an outside producer. Well, a good one at least, as there are some rough edges that need to be sorted, but overall, it's enjoyable progressive rock.
