TERRY HANCK Look Out! Delta Groove 2011 ![]() Looking to jump, jive n' wail? Well look no further than this hot, hot, hot recording from one time Elvin Bishop player Terry Hanck. "The album has that big roomy retro sound, real live with some hand-clappin' West Coast jump feel." says Hanck. And you'll get no arguments from me. Mr Hanck has been honking his horn for a long time now, and certainly knows how to toot it. Turns out, though, he's a dab hand at singing as well, and on this mixture of covers and originals, he's in fine voice, helped out by an excellent band in the shape of guitarist Johnny “Cat” Soubrand, bassist Tim Wagar, and drummer Butch Cousins. They're also helped out by keyboardist Bob Welsh and co-producer/guitarist Chris “Kid” Anderson (former Hanck band member, now with Rick Estrin and the Nightcats). Of the original songs, the best of the bunch is album opener 'Here It Comes', which gets your feet itching straight from the off. Of the cover versions, there's a fantastic take on the old rock'n'roll gem, 'Train Kept A Rollin’, as well as standout turns for Fats Domino’s 'My Girl Josephine' and the Louis Jordan song 'Ain’t That Just Like a Woman', the latter giving Hanck the opportunity to take his horn blowing to some epic heights. We will, however, pretend that 'Girl Girl Girl' never happened. Time for the airbrush to gloss over a reggae side step which totally misses. But it's a small error on an otherwise fabulous record, that should have folks dancing up and down their front rooms.
