THE VOLUNTARY BUTLER SCHEME Grandad Galaxy Split Records 2011 ![]() We're still doing this, yeah? Oh, alright then. Some ten years after it ceased to amusing and / or cool, one man band from Brummage, Rob Jones (not the former Hibs captain), is still trying to be a low rent version of the Flaming Lips. Although, I suspect a lot of people are currently asking their Dads what's a Flaming Lips. And by low rent, I mean really low rent. It's like someone went a bit mentalist with a market stall imitation Casio keyboard from 1988, then shouted their vocals through the window via a megaphone and a muffler. But, hey, if that takes yer fancy. Now, I reckon a lot of people who work for inky papers and glossy magazines will like this sort of thing, but that's because, really, deep down, an awful lot of music journalists don't really like music. Rather, it's their own way of getting back at an industry that rejected their teenage mewlings. I suppose the nearest comparison would be Beck. And he's always been a bit shit, so it's an appropriate comparison. I find it odd that there should be so many instrumentals which meander along and go nowhere. I can only assume he couldn't think of any lyrics and just gave up on it. If only the listener could do the same thing. To be fair, ‘To the Height of a Frisbee’ is a pretty fair tune, one you could dance to were that sort of thing the sort of thing that people got up to, but that's about it.. I'm struggling to think of a reason for you to buy this, but I'm afraid it's beyond my ken. Buy CD From Amazon |
