Livin' My Dream

AOR Heaven 2011

The last album from veteran Swedish party rocker, "Are You Ready" was one of my musical highlights of 2009. I said then "if you ever wondered what happened to that guy who wore all the bangles and scarves back in 1987, then nip off to their website and marvel at what you would have looked like had life not got in the way. But dodgy Dogs d'Amour dads jokes aside, this is a barrel load of fun, back from when there weren't laws in place to stop that sort of thing."

And this is more-ish of the same thing. I say more-ish because this actually seems a tad more serious. Which is a bit of a shame, as they move away slightly from the sleaze rock into a more hard edged AOR mode that is still appealing, but which doesn't quite get my tattoos throbbing. The best tracks are the ones which aim straight for the hard rock disco floor with the opening number 'We're United' going straight for the jugular in classic fist punching fashion. 'Rock It' does the same, and they're probably my favourite numbers on the album.

Over in rock ballad world, they've gone a bit mentalist by throwing down hunnerds of them. And 'Rock On', 'Gonna Have It All' and 'Die For You' definitely have their moments. It's just I could have done with one of them being dropped in favour of another uptempo tune. Production wise, it sounds great, and the band are in fine fettle. It's definitely one that fans of Scandinavian melodic rock should be checking out, but if you've come here looking for another bucket of sleaze, then you might find yourself unsatisfied.
