NORBERT KRIEF Nono XIII Bis 2011 ![]() Blimey! And then some. When this popped through the letterbox, I had an instant flashback to 1980 and the first time I heard "Repression" by Trust. I was utterly blown away. Still am, in fact. For a couple of years, Trust, driven along by Norbert 'Nono' Kriefs vicious guitar lines, were one of the best rock bands around. Fast forward thirty years, and here I am listening to a solo album by Nono, who has also worked with Shakin' Street, Johnny Hallyday and Fabienne Shine amonst others. And it's good. Not great, but good. See, Nono seems incapable of sticking to one style. For sure, the awesome guitar playing is front and centre, but this release sees him throwing in disco rhythms and dance beats, along with some more basic rock and roll, and even the blues. Which sometimes works, but not always. And it's the more bluesy tunes that work best for me, so you'll find me skipping on to the likes of ‘She’s Burning Up My Bed’, ‘Come On Rock & Roll’, and even the cover version of the Canned Heat chestnut ‘On The Road Again’. Mr Krief is in fine form throughout, and uses this album to show that he is a master of many styles, be it pop, rock, jazz or blues. That makes for a schizophrenic but, ultimately, enjoyable album from one of my teenage guitar heroes. Buy CD From Amazon Edited by zeitgeist, Jul 31 2011, 08:47 AM.
