TOM FULLER BAND Ask Redcap 2011 ![]() This is quite an interesting one. Tom Fuller comes from Chicago, but is quite upfront about his biggest musical influence being Paul McCartney. Not something I can relate to, but Mr Fuller writes songs that are so good, I find them difficult to resist. It's album number three from Mr Fuller following on from his 2005 début album "Chasing An Illusion" and the 2009 follow-up "Abstract Man". First off, the album sounds great, so it looks like it was well worth the effort of getting producer Rick Chudacoff, who as worked with the likes of Alison Krauss and Smokey Robinson to twiddle the knobs. But it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference if there weren't some tunes that you could hum along to. And there's a good few of those here. It's not an easy sound to pigeon-hole, but there are echoes of the wide open sounds of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. With the jangles but minus the nasal overdose. There is enough classic rock to keep the likes of me happy, but it's also radio friendly enough to capture the ears of people who still listen to it. The best of the bunch is the hook filled 'Lovers', the catchy title track and 'Anthem Man'. I was also well taken with the closing 'Garden Dreaming Days' which just oozes summer melancholy. An enjoyable and surprising treat for anyone looking out for some proper, grown up tunes. Buy CD From Amazon |
