JT COLDFIRE Crazy Sun JT Coldfire 2011 ![]() This album has been floating around for a fair wee while now, but it's been scrubbed up, and punted out again, in the hope that a few more folks will catch up with it, this time around. And they should, because it's all rather good. He's been playing the blues around Texas for 15 years now, and you don't get booked twice around those parts if you can't cut the mustard. He kicks things off in solo acoustic blues mode with 'Pistol Lead', before the band come crashing in to boogie their way through 'Johnny's Gone'. All the songs are self penned, and he does like to riff it up Stevie Ray style, but there's nothing wrong with that, despite what the naysayers will tell you. He has a gritty, well worn voice that suits the material, and he's got his trio whipped into shape as they groove with him, alongside some judiciously used guests on harp and piano. For sure, he's not reinventing the wheel, but when he whips up a storm on the title track, or on 'Hangin' Tree', then you can't help but nod approvingly. http://www.jtcoldfire.com |
