LAWRENCE BLATT - The Color Of Sunshine![]() The two previous albums by Mr Blatt, “Fibonacci's Dream” and “Fibonacci's Dream” were very welcome visitors round my way, and I can safely say that they contained some of the finest guitar playing I have ever heard. Now I’m a rocker at heart but the self-described “eclectic modern colourful compositions for the acoustic guitar’ resonated somewhere inside my hardened heart. After all, I’m not someone who regularly plays acoustic instrumentals. Now I’m not nearly articulate enough to describe what this album is about, so I’ll let Mr Blatt have his say. “The basic concept of The Color Of Sunshine is that both light/color and sound/pitch are a function of vibrating waves that are similar and related. Given this natural relationship, I used colors as the inspiration for different moods and emotions on an entire album.” So there. All I need to know is that these are some of his finest compositions yet, with the hard-driving (by comparison) ‘Gray Salt Marsh’ and the somewhat predatory ‘Alhambra (The Red) my favourites of the day. Because this is mood music and each play brings another tune to the fore. Even the ukulele featuring ‘Orange Blossom Honey’ has had its day in the sun. Guitar freaks will be delighted to know that the instruments and tuning are detailed, although if I was a guitar picker, listening to playing this good would make me want to pack it in. A delight from start to finish. http://www.lawrenceblatt.com |
