KRIS MORRIS - I Think We Both Know![]() Mr Morris may have abandoned the golden paved streets of London for his native (and mythical) homeland of Australia, but before he went, he very kindly left us this rather delightful album. Now, I must admit I never heard his début EP, "Little Light", but that most definitely seems to have been my loss. During his lengthy tenure dahn Sarf, Mr Morris was a regular performer in London, as well as doing sessions for a few local BBC stations, and the time and effort he has put into this craft shines through on this accomplished and mature singer / songwritery thing. People who know about such things have compared him to the likes of Ray Lamontagne and Ryan Adams, but being a fan of neither, I would say that's damning him with faint praise, as I would much rather listen to this. He has a gritty, well worn voice, slightly reminiscent of that fella that Winona Ryder went out with, you know, pineapplehead, that gives an edge to even the most blissful of tunes, and when he gets his dander up, it's a mighty fine noise, something I'm sure would have endeared him to the owners of the Victorian hunting lodge where this was recorded. It's an album well worth living with, as there are new twists each time you listen, but the highlights round our way are 'Other Side' and 'It's OK', with a special place being reserved for album highlight 'I Still Believe'. Hopefully, returning to the mothership won't be the last we hear of Mr Morris, although should the reprogramming go ahead, this is a splendid way to say goodbye. http://www.krismorris.com |
