Nick Evans Mowery - Blood & Rust![]() Well now, this is a proper solo album, with Las Vegas based singer / songwriter Nick Evans Mowery hoovering up credits for vocals, keyboards, synths, guitars, bass, percussion and harmonica, as well as writing and producing the whole shebang. So you'd think he would have been able to come up with a better description of his music than bluegrass / country / blues / folk / adult contemporary. Doesn't exactly roll of the tongue. However, if I were to tell you that there was a song here with the word Dylan in the title, then that might help clear things up for you. On the plus side, though, Nick never sounds like he's swallowed a passing Daffy Duck impersonator, although he does get a bit close for comfort on the likes of 'Tenneessee'. It all works best when he strips things down to a spartan, acoustic style, whips out his moothie and wears his heart on his sleeve. There are some really excellent songs on offer here, the kind that make you wonder why they haven't broken out to a wider audience. 'Our Way', 'Road To Arlington', 'Chief Master Sgt.' and others are songs you will want to come back to time and again.
