Otis Jackson - The Art Of Love

Posted Image

Otis Jackson is a balladeer. It must be true. It's the opening sentence on his bio. Back in the day Otis Jackson was a proper soul singer - the type that toured with the likes of The Whispres, Ike & Tina Turner, Lou Rawls and many others. He even released a record, "Message To The Ghetto". But then it was time to buckle down and provide for his family, which like a proper grown up, he did.

But they're all grown up and doing musical bits and bobs of their own (including some unnecessary remixed tacked on to the end of this album), so now it's time for Otis to kick back and show us how it should be done. And if the whole Philly soul / Barry White of big r'n'b songs is what you like, then you are going to lie back and let this lick you up.

At it's best it's like being spoon fed ice cream, while lying on a bear skin rug in front of a roaring log fire. And most of it is good, especially when he goes all Isaac Hayes on 'With You On My Side' and 'It's All The Same'. They're all new tracks that sound like lost gems bar a crack at soul legend, HB Barnums 'We Can Work It Out'. A thoroughly enjoyable CD.
