I am trying to make a statue with a brand new nif from a different game, just to see if it can be done, and have coded everything using OCT. I have got everything to work in game, like the zoopedia, but the nif does not show up in game at all. It places, but the model is invisible. I have been through all the coding and I can't seem to find the problem. I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I just really need some help with it. |

I´m not sure but you need to do something more when you import nifs from an other game. I don´t know what... |

your coding is absolutly fine, when I sub out the civ nif for a ZT2 one it works fine =) You need to do something to the nif file and all I can really find out about the process is that apparently its complicated. I've tried exporting the nif as an .obj from nifskope, then importing it 'over' an existing ZT2 .nif, the small wetlands rock as suggested by penguinman in another thread in this section, and the nif changes apperances fine, but then I cannot get it to accept the skin .dds over the top of it anymore, and placing the statue in game now makes the game crash so i think I must have missed some crucial part of the process... if anyone could help Goldentiger and me out it would be greatly appreciated =) |

Well I don't know exactly how to do this right because I have the wrong version of nifskope, but you have to open the animal nif you want in nifskope and click on it. A nitrishape'll be selected so right click that and go to Obj > Export Mesh and save it somewhere. Then open the statue nif and do the same as with the animal but go to Obj > Import and find where you saved it. Put it where you want on the statue and then go to Render > Show Hidden so you see the original model that was there. Replace them with the new one again and that might work...I might just be making things worse though xD Oh, and if you didn't already know you have to use the skin from the animal you're putting on the statue, not what's already there. |

Ratzappy is pretty much correct, except for selecting the nitrishape. Don't select ANYTHING, just export the whole scene. And also you need to stripify the nitrishapes when you're done importing, as objects use nitriSTRIPS and animals use nitriSHAPES, which will be causing the crashing. If you still have problems, you can send it to me and I'll fix it. |

I don't know if your trying to explain the right things. I've got the NIF of the statue done, as it's from another game, along with the dds skin. The only problem is that it won't show in the game, possibly because it's the wrong type or there is something wrong in the NIF code, I don't know. I know it can be done because I have seen it done before, but don't ask me where

that's what they are explaining, the problem is the nif versions differ and probably the nodes too so you need to change the models of the statue you've got to the statue of zoo tycoon, in order for it to work. |

Right, I have just had an extended go at trying to get this to work... and eventually failed but I think I've made some progress! Here are the steps I took, with some screenies, and if anyone could point out where I went wrong, or give me some advice on the bits that have messed up, it would be very much appreciated =) 1. Opened the zulu .nif from civ 4 in nifiscope, and have not clicked on any part of it. 2. Gone to File/ export/ export. OBJ 3. At this point a window appears saying ‘Ninode selected. All children of selected node will be exported’ and I click ‘ok’ and save it. 4. I then close nifiskope with the zulu in it, and open a new nifiskope window with the polar bear statue in it. 5. I then click on the polar bear part of the mesh and right click/ mesh/ triangulate. Then I go to File/ Import/ Import. OBJ and chose the ‘zulu export.obj’ file I have just made. 6. A window pops up saying ‘NiTriShape selected. The first imported mesh will replace the selected one.’ And I click ok, and chose the .OBJ file I just made. 7. The polar bear part of the statue then changes into the zuu statue, but its huge lol! Screenie: ![]() 8. I then select each part of the zulu mesh (there are 2 components in all) and right click, then go to ‘scale/ scale vertices’ and reduce each in turn until the size looks remotely sensible! 9. However, the two components get ‘out of sync’ with each other during this process. I am not sure how to fix this. Also the statue is floating off the platform a bit, if anyone could help with this I would appreciate it =) ![]() 10. The I went to Spells/ optimise/ striptify all trishapes. 11. Then I tried the bit where you select ‘render/ show hidden’ and the polar bear statue reappears sorta merged with the zulu statue, but I am unsure what you do at this point to the bear mesh, do you try and delete it? ![]() 12. I don’t do anything to the bear and deselect the ‘show hidden’ bit so it goes away. I then save the file and exit nifiscope and try to put it in game… 13. Unfortunatly only one component of the skin can find its way onto the statue, any thoughts on where I went wrong there? There is only one .dds for the whole thing and I striptified both bits. ![]() what it should look like minus the base: ![]() 14. I tried putting it ingame but when I clicked on it in the adoption panel it crashed the game… oh well back to the drawing board! So if anyone can offer any advice, that would be great =) |

Oka, for scaling your zulu statue make sure both pieces are exactly the same size, for instance if one is .2 the other one needs to be as well. For the other problems, it would probably be best if I looked at them as I can't really tell whats wrong unless I see the files, and it's easier for me to explain with photos than words, lol |

I think one problem is that you cant export the zulu as 2 meshes and import it over just one perhaps. I think you should try just exporting the body and then importing that. As for the polar bears that you see in show hidden, those are the LODs and you should click them and import the mesh over them as well. |
Check out my site where you can get many of my downloads here.

ok I will send the original zulu nif and .dds from civ4 and the nif I edited to you (at the address you sent your skinning competition entry to) Thanks Mysteh! Oh and for the resize thing, I did do exactly the same figures hence why I'm confused about why they are out of sync. Or I thought I did anyway... I had to do it in a series of resizes because it was the first time I'd resized anything in nifiskope and I din't know exactly how big the size changes would be and there isn't an 'undo' button I can find in nifiskope! I will also try your suggestion penguinman, thank you =) ah you are right! becaue the rest of the zulu skin is all over the hidden polar bear nif so its only imported the spear and sheild somehow. ![]() although when you say 'click on the LODS and import the mesh over them too' do you mean copy the LODS from the original .nif and paste them over the statue LODS or do you mean import the whole nif again? |
