I seem to be getting very little progress with Mesh editting. In 3ds Max, when I import the model in, I get a lot of boxes around the mesh (I think they're nodes) and the mesh is distorted/scrambled. When I click on the mesh and edit the vertexes the model snaps together and then I edit it to the way I want. Then when I export it and open it in Nifskope the model is distorted. I think I may be importing and exporting the model wrong. |

Why? it has nothing to do with recoloring... You can just open the models in nifscope you know, it would be a lot easier. |

I'm talking about editting in 3ds Max, and its harder to mesh in Nifskope. |

Ok heres what I do. I import the model preferences Then it shows up like this Then when I click on the Editable mesh the model snaps back toegher. Like This... And this is what it looks like in Nifskope with the same export preferences PP uses. Distorted... |

You probably do this anyway but I noticed from the image of it in Nifskope that it looks like what files often look like to me until I press the blue eye on the toolbar to view it correctly. Just thought i'd say

Yeah, I've changed it to the preferences steenbok told me to set it to. So instead of the above import preferences I have this : http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1906/importpref2fp2.jpg |

I have edited the tutorial and it shows import preferences.Your import preferences is not the same with what i show in tutorial. About object snapping back to normal if we click on it often happens. If you want to edit the mesh then you should first delete the Skin modifier from the modifier stack. After you finish edit the model put the Skin modifier again then add bones and adjust envelope. You have to learn 3dsmax from beginning not jumping to difficult task right away. Learn the tutorials, try making model, practice, learn from mistake, etc. If you have patience you can do it. |

I know how to make models, I know how to make map objects and such for another game, but they dont have bones/nodes/etc. For modelling for Zoo Tycoon I think I'm starting out pretty simple just trying to edit a model and get it in game. Putting the skin modifier in, adding bones, and adjusting to envelope I dont know how to do, nor do I know the degree of effort or time it consumes doing it. I tried copying the skin modifier deleteing it, adjusting the model and pasting it in and when I export the model looks right in nifskope. When I try ingame the animal is blank but in the box with the animal info on it, the picture has the model and the model is white. I also noticed that turning off the light bulb in the modifier list makes the model snap together and you dont get the error message popping up saying you can mess up the skin modifier with editting the mesh. That produces the same result aswell. |

This is going to sound very stupid, but, I seem to have lost the thing that lets you move, rotate, and scale in one direction or certain directions. Whats it called and how do I get it back? xD EDIT: Nvm got it xD, press X.. |
