Right-o. I finished coding the Topi and made the base skin for it. I've followed the DXTBmp tutorial here (I'm using Photoshop CS), and followed the "Common Problems" troubleshooting guide. It seems like one part of a problem is fixed only to allow another to crop up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Right now, I have the animal's menu icon working, zoopedia working, etc., but the animal is invisible when brought into the environment and the game crashes when it is placed.

The BFM has been changed to match the animal's codename, the .NIF file has been changed, with the correct spaces, to match the animals codename, and I've been through the .DDS and .XML files a hundred times.

HELP! D: I'm so close! lol

Twice, first line and the last after the long block (graph) as it said to in the troubleshooting.

Is there another place?

EDIT: I just noticed something... Last night, I tried editing the Bongo mesh (it's what I used for the Topi) and deleted that crest of hair that runs along the Bongo's back. When I tried to save it, my entire computer crashed, but this morning the crest is still gone. Could that be the problem? As in, do I need to remove the edited .NIF mesh and replace it with the original (back fringe intact, ugh) and do the .dds renaming again?

Well there's been some progress. I can now place the animal without the game crashing, buuuutttt it's invisible unless I Pause the game first, then place it. After un-Pausing, the animal is still visible, but won't move.

Like I said--I fix one thing only to create three new problems in it's place.

I'll keep banging away at it. Possibly with an actual club.

-grumbles-

sounds like you either linked the xml to the bfm incorrectly or did not code the bfm correctly - i can have a look if you like

Did you rename the BFMAT file correctly? You can't name the bfamt file with your codename, it has to be named by what's been coded in the .nif

For example if your animal name is DolphinStriped ( I using one of my animals  ) then you do not name your bfmat Dolphin Striped. It must correlate with what's been coded in the nif. So if its coded like this in the .nif , Dolphin_Striped__Adult_M_Dolphin_Adult_F_mod0.bfmat ( and it will say that in the .nif) you will need to name the file accordingly.

Try that and see if that works, because I had the same problem with my dolphin.
