Okay, another animal, another problem. I'm working on my Serval and went to test it ingame for the first time. Well, the icon is in the menu, when clicked it brings up a caracal to place. Hmm... Okay, so I go back and change the .bfm, realising I had forgotten to edit that. Testing it ingame after editing the .bfm, when I click on the animal's icon the game crashes! Eek! I went back and checked the bfm, the nif, and the ai files to make sure something wasn't misnamed, but it all seems to be in order (unless of course it's not and I just missed something stupid again). Could this problem have something to do with my meshed model? |

Depends... Did you edit the model using just NifSkope? If so, it shouldn't be the problem. |

Yes, just NifSkope. I didn't do the low-res model because I couldn't get it to "paste over" correctly. I'm hoping in the process I didn't severely mess something up with the model itself. : \ |

You should try checking your entities folder for an adiitional codename for the Caracal, and replace it with Serval. If this doesn't work, make sure your lang file is right so it says Serval in the game, and make sure your image file has your codename, not the name of the Caracal. |

The first test I would recommend is temporarily change the model from your edited one to the original, then we can start to pin down where the problem is

Okay, tried it, the animal works with the old model. Soo... I guess I'm back to square one with my mesh editing. : \ |

I can probably say that you messed it up with the pasting over... I can see that being the problem. |

I don't think that's it. I tried re-doing it with only the BAREST of edits (removing the ear tufts) and it still crashed. Then I tried doing it with the "sanitize before save" option turned off and the game didn't crash, but rather froze up to the point where I had to switch the computer off to get out of it. x_X There must be something I'm doing wrong. Perhaps removing the entire block which contains the ear tufts is the wrong thing to do? |

Wait, did you delete vertices in blender or something? It's important that you DONT change the number of vertices in the model unless you really know what you are doing.. there's tons of extra steps to that. |

No, I did it in Nifskope. The ear tufts are a separate mesh, which I had simply deleted, but now it appears that just doesn't work. I think I'm going to have to try a different approach. |

There are usually two other meshes under the main one which are hidden, if you can't see them, go to Render>Show Hidden. Try deleting those two as well, everything including and in between the NiTriShape to NiTriShapeData. Other than that, I'm not sure how to help you with this, meshing is a difficult thing itself. |

That's a bit surprising cause I know removing blocks on objects works.. however animals are a bit more annoying so I dunno... thats quite strange, |

You can't remove a whole branch with animal nifs (a branch is several lines in the nif that have to do with each other) which is what you need to do with your animal. You are going to have to delete more than one block per mesh, instead, delete all the lines (or blocks) in between the NiTriShape and NiTriShapeData, including NiTriShape and NiTriShape Data. |

Huh... I tried doing that, Catc, but it still freezes/crashes the game. : \ Is there more stuff I should be getting rid of? Two of the NiTriShape blocks don't have anything in between them and the NiTriShapeData block. |
