It worked because it just happened to have a complete nif file, and xtrat worked on and created the ai/lang/ui files for it (which we are able to do). Penguinman and I have been struggling for a long time trying to make the springhare adoptable, but so far - no sucess.

Same thing happened to me. I tried making a Kookaburra. I couldn't get it to work.

How do you edit NIF files? And also, has anyone checked all the ambients nifs, in case any of the others have complete ones? Just wondering I take it that we add dl'd animals to ZT2 the same way as always (theres no ES dl folder? is there?) |

Sorry if this is double posting, it has been a few hours, and I need a new post for screenshots of my frog: The feet are a bit odd, but I'll probably leave them unless people REALLY want them changed, and I'm still coding so it could be a while yet before its up for dl.

That may take some time, not ecactly having problems per se, just not enough time in the day Also, which program do people use to edit NIF's. And which part do you edit to get the DDS files working. |

You use a hex editor, I use XVI32. You just have to edit the lines ending in .dds so they match your .dds files. But you CANNOT change the number of letters. |

Nice, froggy indeed! First - yes, we have checked all the nifs for all the other ambients, believe me The closest one is the springhare, which Penguinman can get to show in the menu, but can't get to select for the game itself. It's simply not workable, even with my xml files. Too bad.To edit nif files, you need a thing called a HEX EDITOR. Some of them are WinHex, FlexHEX, and Cygnus Hex Editor. Most are free 30-day trials. I use Cygnus simply because WinHex doesn't function on my machine. I'm not sure which one Penguinman uses. You can Google to find them. Just remember, when editing nif files, the ONLY thing you may change are the lines with .dds in them (use Search to find them). And you may NOT change the amount of characters. You will probably have to either lengthen (using ____) or shorten (tiger to tigr) to make sure you keep the same number of characters. After you edit the nif, make absolutely sure that you change the names of the dds files used by the nif to MATCH what you used inside the nif. For example, if you change tiger to lion, change the matching dds file to read Lion__Adult_M (notice the extra _. If you've had to shorten the name lion to tigr, it would read Tigr_Adult_M. |

Thanks, just one more question: This means the DDS files name may change, but surely as long as you renamed it the same length it should be fine. e.g: lion_adult_m. If I was making a fantasy animals called Grif, I would change it to grif_adult_m (the DDS file) so the name of the DDS link in the NIf would be lion_adult_m.dds, so I change that to grif_adult_m.dds, correct. However, could the NIF file have something like: lioner_adult_m.dds, or will it always EXACTLY correspond with the visible name of the DDS file. Also, do I have to edit anything other than the names of the BF and BFM files? |

Yes, it must match exactly. You do grasp the principle, though (good for you!) And, once you've got the dds/nif files done, there must be the xml files in the ai to do, plus, naturally, the lang and ui (zoopedia) files. As to how to do the ai file(s), my suggestion is that you simply copy one and alter it appropriately. You can change things like location, food, shelter and size in there. When you get ready to do that, post here and we'll help you with it. Penguinman edits his with Notepad, I use MS FrontPage. Don't use WORD, because when you save it, it won't save it as an xml file correctly. |

OK, thanks though still unsure about the Bf and Bfm file: you edit the name, yes, so it would go from Zebra.bfm to PFrog.bfm (<-- kept the number of letters correct, you need to do this throughout right? And no I'm NOT using the zebra files for my frog, just an e.g). But you dont need to edit any of the CONTENT of the bf/bfm files (is this even possible?) do you? And if the answer IS yes, what do you edit? |

You may want to use APE II some because it explains all of this, but oh well. Like I said a few posts above, you DO NOT edit BF files in ANY way. You edit .bfm files in notepad and you edit the very first line and the graphname line. Also, the codename does not have to be the same number of letters, but it does make it easier. |

Thanks, but personally I find APE II not very good, it told me most of what I already new and answered none of my questions, unlike this site ![]() EDIT: got the skins all working, that includes the sick/dirty which are below. Also checked behaviour, seems to be all there (I take it frogs dont swim?) Sick Dirty Eating Just the zoopedia to tweak now
