Young popular Japanese female singer-songwriter YUI performed live on the streets of Shanghai, China on the 24th Sep (actual street name = 繁華街). For a tight security country like China, to have a Japanese singer performing live on the streets is rare.

The live performance was conducted within the trendy area called Xin Tian Di "新天地" (a popoular area that has a romanticised atmosphere of old Shanghai, mainly attracting foreigners) and despite the lack of any prior publicity, numerous young Chinese stopped to listen to YUI as she sang a total of four songs on her guitar.

Next, YUI continued to Hisamitsu department store just off Jing'an Temple Station for a performance on the special stage at the square. In between the guards assigned, more than 1500 fans gathered at the performance.

Female office workers in Shanghai said that they "like YUI’s style". For the purpose of introducing Japanese music and culture, on 25th Sep, YUI will also attend the “Shanghai Japan Week” held at the Shanghai International Studies University.

Hope to post more news and media coverage about the 上海日本文化周 Shanghai Japan Week Showcase 2011 Event soon !

The Shanghai Japan Culture Week 上海日本文化周 is a three day joint cultural event that ran from September 23-25, 2011. This is the first cultural interchange event held by China Japan and had featured various performances by Japanese artists (AKB48), Japanese kimono dressing and tea ceremony demonstrations, and other attractions including a 'cosplay' (costume play) competition. This special event was held to express gratitude for China's aid after the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

Apparently, this event was free for those who won the lottery from neighboring universities, some students sold “tickets” at a very high price (USD $472).

Popular J-pop girl group AKB48 members performed at 90 minute concert on Saturday, September 24th but the best surprise was to come on the last day! A special guest appeared at this event, and who would it be other than our beloved YUI!

Although the organisers kept the information a secret, once the host asked “can you guess who the mystery guest is?”, without a moment to waste, all the fans shouted “YUI!”. 《Green a.live》、《I'll be》、《Good-bye days》三首歌连唱。
She sang three songs, 《Green a.live》、《I'll be》、《Good-bye days》, consecutively. Among which, ,《Green a.live》is about to be released on Oct 5th, and is a song inspired by the YUI's thoughts and emotions after the 3.11 earthquake. "Green a.live"'s meaning is "to live with nature".

Rushing with all my might to the front row to reach my little hand out to YUI... ... In the end, YUI said "Thank you everyone for inviting me here today. I am very glad to be able to be a part of this great event."

YUI, first ever street live in Shanghai
Posted Image
translated by: cyclo

On September 24th, YUI visited Shanghai, China’s sight-seeing venue [Xin Tian Di], and accomplished the great feat of performing her first ever street live in China.

This street live was a response to the hopes of fans in China, a collaboration initiated by the China side, an exceptional experimental “Street Live” that was the first ever in China, materialized by the coordination of various people. Once again, as the first Japanese artist in Shanghai performing at a local mega-mall’s free event at a scale of over 2000 people (Shanghai’s shopping district [Jing An temple]‘s Departmental store [Jiu Guang Departmental Store]), the event was a record-breaking success in drawing customers.

Furthermore, as arranged by the local Japanese consulate-general, she also appeared as a surprise guest at <Shanghai Japan Week 2011> held by the [Shanghai Japanese Consulate-General Organization] from September 23rd to 25th. Saying “For the great support from China during the East Japan Great Earthquake, I want to express my personal thanks no matter what”, thus conveying her gratitude, she displayed her compositions, the new song [Green a.live], and her well-known song in China “Good-bye days].

For YUI, who had successfully held a large scale (approximately 7500 people) one-man live in Hong Kong in June of 2011, places all over asia have sight their sights on her, and she has received endless public performance offers. Here in Japan the K-POP sensation sweeps across devastatingly, but in the Asian music entertainment scene, Japanese artists are highly popular, and there are also many musicians actively promoting. YUI is among the artists who have, for practical reasons, extended their activities into Asia. We look forward to her future developments hereafter.

YUI, “Historically China’s first” live on a road >>i like this title hahaha

http://www.oricon.co.jp/news/music/2002217/full/?cat_id=tw
translated by: Panda! Thank you~~~

On the 24th, popular singer song writer YUI (24) preformed a street live at China, Shanghai’s signature tourist attraction “Xin Tian Di” (literally new world). In China this kind of live on the road was a historical first. In response to the Chinese fan’s wishes, this live was realised with cooperation with the Chinese side.

Also, she became the first Japanese artist to preform live in Shanghai for a large scale deparmet store (Shanghai, Jiu-guang department store) [literally long light], the free event attracted a record 2000 people. Moreover, she appeared as a surprise guest for the “Shanghai Japan Week 2011” held between 23rd-25th, since consulate general set her on it.

YUI “personally gave her thanks for the great support from China after the great earthquake in east Japan” to express her gratitude to the Chinese fans, new song releasing next month the 「Green a.live」, and even in China the widely known hit song 「Good-bye days」was put on show.

After the successful June solo live in Hong Kong attended by 7500 people YUI has become a hot topic attracting attention from everywhere in Asia, which means there would be no shortage of offers for other performances.

:clap yeeeees WORLD TOUR c'mon!~~~

^^ Nah these are music publishers, they don't need to get into gossip crap which the Shanghai newspapers already covered. Plus, if the Japanese wrote it in that point of view, Jpn fans might hate on China and thus more racial conflict....keep it safe/clean yo~ let the Sony HK/Jpn/China crew deal with the crap

^ Kind of funny how in this video YUI specifically asked the audience to sing along if they know the song but everyone kept quiet to listen (contrast this to other times where everyone started singing from the first line... haha). Its good in a way since its what an audience should be doing ==> listening, but I think YUI is always left guessing how her audience will respond :)
