So, Let's put a place for news articles or videos or such that include people or things YUI-Lover related!! Apart from a video I wasn't able to rip (yet) of YLers and the banner at the airport picking up YUI, this newspaper article from Oricon.co.jp talked specifically about countries represented in the Concert!! http://www.oricon.co.jp/news/music/89302/full/ YUI steps forward to Asia! First overseas concert gathers 7500 enthusiastic people Popular singer-songwriter YUI conducted her first concert overseas the 26th at Asia World Arena in Hong Kong. At the special production made for Hong Kong, 7500 fans were crazy about YUI. When Japan was struck by the big earthquake, Hong Kong responded with aid. YUI said in gratitude: “Thank you for helping Japan”. The venue was wrapped with a warm sense of unity. Since her second album “CAN’T BUY MY LOVE” to her latest album “HOLIDAYS IN THE SUN” she has acquired 4 first place positions in Hong Kong charts. As her popularity rises in Hong Kong, Korea and central Asia, YUI finally achieves her first step into Asia. YUI made a new setlist for her concert in Hong Kong. Meeting local fans in the rol of dancers, they danced together on stage. At her debut song “fee my soul” they projected pictures on the screens of “Your important person” solicited previously to fans. As a surprise, a very popular comedian was invited to participate. Fans were delighted. According to the oficial staff “Tickets were sold out faster than for Avril Lavigne's”. In such concert with the same success, not only everyone came from Hong Kong. America, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and others fans from all over the world gathered. It hinted the highest level of interest Furthermore, all the earnings of the charity goods sold will be donated to the areas affected by the Tohoku earthquake, through the organization Japan Platform. While her latest single "HELLO ~Paradise Kiss~" is very popular. YUI went to AsiaWorld-Arena in Hong Kong on June 26th for her first overseas concert in her career. Posted Image Although AsiaWorld-Arena is the huge venue with a capacity of approximately 7,500 people, ardent YUI fans filled it up. YUI tunes are very popular in Hong Kong also, enough to stay high in the long-term chart. On that stage, a lot of plots were performed. Some local fans* had the chance to be "es.car" dancers, and "feel my soul" was sung while showing the pictures of "your precious person" sent by fans on the screen. One more surprise is the appearance of a well-known local comedian. That was a special night for Hong Kong fans. Posted Image In addition, Special charity goods were sold on the venue to support East Japan damaged by the earthquakes. YUI commented about it "Thank you for your support to Japan. I'm so happy" at the encore, and the venue was filled up with heartwarming atmosphere. The whole profit about the charity goods will be donated through the organization Japan Platform. Foud a magazine with a short article on YUI (really HK-based context...don't agree with some of what she said either) http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/52/p290611223601.jpg/ [YUI Hong Kong Live 2011] Reporter: Ka Man Leung "I have heard J-pop for most of my life. To be honest, I've never been attracted by YUI, ordinary vocals, not the prettiest, and the songs aren't that special. No matter how hit her songs are, they are never the mostly played in my MP3 or Iphone. Seeing how her concert in HK was completely sold out, I was really surprised as it was her first foreign concert. As I head towards the Asia-World Arena, I was expecting a very simple, calm, acoustic concert. The results were totally unexpected. From a street performer to a contracted singer, YUI has been a professional artist for six years and her singles are constantly in the top three of Oricon. Unlike AKB who is famous via marketing and other means, what YUI depends on is just her songs. Hearing her live, YUI's singing isn't as great as MISIA, but her focus and dedication covers up for her shortcomings. YUI's performance is truely exceptional, singing with her guitar, and even playing the piano during the encore segment. Cheers and applause never ceased throughout the concert. I was most surprised by the pure singer and her very courteous (Japanese styled) fans. When YUI finished her last song and the band left the stage, she said that she wanted to do a street-performance and sing "Goodbye Days". After saying that, she sat down with her guitar and sang with no microphones nor pick-ups. Due to my seat being very far away, I only heard a weak voice and guitar souds, but I saw YUI on the screen singing with all her heart and all her emotions flowing from within. And for the first time, those were five minutes of complete silence, no phones ringing, no whistles, and no crazy shouts of "I love you", even right before she was about to sing, the crowd were all hushing each other, and it was a sight I thought I'd only see in Japan. A rush of emotions came from within me hearing the voice of YUI amidst the silence in the arena. [backside] So there are still singers in today's entertainment world who do not rely on fancy clothing, nor sexiness. In the two hours, only changing once, YUI relied only on her talents to capture and touch others. There are still positive energy in this world. P.S. Japanese artists having concerts in HK sell a lot of pretty concert goods of good quality, unlike the HK singers who just randomly make ugly t-shirts to get money."[/b] Edited by ss4_goku, Jun 30 2011, 03:45:48 AM.

Very nice report by the Associated Press! :clap By MIN LEE, AP Entertainment Writer HONG KONG (AP) — Rising Japanese singer-songwriter YUI led her four-member band with confidence, switching between electric and acoustic guitar and the keyboard. It was the kind of vibrant live performance that has helped the 24-year-old former street performer, whose full name is Yui Yoshioka, win fans across Japan. Now she has taken her act overseas, staging her first foreign show in the southern Chinese territory of Hong Kong late Sunday. The capacity audience at the 14,000-seat AsiaWorld-Expo Arena on outlying Lantau Island stood and clapped throughout a two-hour set except for a brief acoustic section when YUI asked them to sit down. The young fans nodded their heads in appreciation even though they didn't appear to follow the lyrics closely. YUI brought in some local help — popular Hong Kong rapper Eric Kot made a guest appearance dressed in a neon yellow jacket and matching shorts, bantering with the Japanese singer in a mixture of Cantonese and Japanese. But the cultural bridge didn't appear to be needed. Eager fans demanded an encore with passionate chants of "YUI." It's easy to understand YUI's appeal in the former British colony with a long history of affection for Japanese pop culture. While Hong Kong singers crank out mellow, sappy ballads largely generated by the same pool of songwriters, YUI offers an energetic rock sound combined with upbeat lyrics about overcoming hardship and realizing one's dreams — as well as the joys of puppy love. The lyrics' Chinese translations are widely available on fan websites. The native of the southern city Fukuoka started out as a street musician in her hometown before moving to Tokyo in search of a record deal. She released her first single in December 2004, followed by her debut album, "From Me to You," in 2006. Her career took off with her starring role in the popular 2006 film "Taiyo no Uta," or "Midnight Sun." YUI's earnest performance as a Japanese teenager whose skin condition confines her to night activity — she plays the guitar in the deserted streets of a coastal city — won her the best newcomer prize at the Japanese Academy Awards. The film's theme song, "Goodbye Days," which she penned, quickly became a hit. On Sunday, she wrapped up her Hong Kong show with a guitar solo of "Goodbye Days," which she performed sitting at the edge of the stage without a microphone to a silent audience that erupted in applause afterward. YUI's next album, the April 2007 release "Can't Buy My Love" spent two weeks at No. 1 on Japan's Oricon weekly pop album charts. She followed up in 2008 with another best-selling album, "I Loved Yesterday," which also topped the Oricon album charts. Her latest release, last year's "Holidays in the Sun," also reached No. 1. YUI told The Associated Press in an interview Saturday that she was inspired by street performers in Fukuoka to take up the guitar and join their ranks. "I've been helped a lot by music, so when I write music, I want to give back to music. I carry the mindset of gratitude. I want the people who listen to my music to feel the message of gratitude," Yui said through a translator. She said she is constantly composing — "I could be washing my clothes and hanging my clothes and have an idea." Asked if she wants to showcase her musical talent beyond Hong Kong, YUI responded, "There are many places I want to visit." Copyright © 2011 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. (Almost perfect. I just had to replace Yui by YUI) xD -- I made a mistake in the oricon translation “Tickets were sold out faster than Avril Lavigne's” Next time ill just wait for tokyo hive to traslate oricon xD Edited by Kikino!, Jul 2 2011, 09:47:31 PM.
