To TOKYO with YUI!

while i waas in jpan i saw this cd. It was a album by YOU :angry

named LIFE-the second movment. The style of the cover and the name is similar to the pv so at first glance I thought what is LIFE (YUI) doing there.

check it out.http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-cv-49-en-70-26yj.html

Hmm...Yuu(same sound as YOU) is a popular name in Japan and LIFE is also a popular name for a title. Even if it looks similar, It's too much to say that it's a copying.

I don't think this guy is copying YUI at all... it's true that Mika Nakashima has a song called LIFE (listening to it right now, lol), so should we go around calling her a copycat?

Just because a CD has the same title or a picture looks similar, doesn't mean "they don't have a life of their own". This guy most likely worked hard to get his music recorded and released on a CD, give him a freaking break.. he isn't doing anything wrong.

well ever since YUI came out people are finding a market for this style of music

Kinda the "light alternative rock" style of music

so its not really a surprise seeing these people copying the original

but... that doesnt make the original any less popular

It would probably make them more popular

So lets all chill out... its not like they are stealing her songs and calling them their own

You are overrating YUI. She doesn't have such a big impact on Japanese music market. Most Japanese people regard her as just another pop singer.

One more thing. He is the guitarist of the famous J-rock band Janne Da Arc and this album is his solo project.

How many Japanese did you interview for this statistic?

We love our YUI, and we will defend her to our deaths. At least I will.

A guitarist going solo? That might explain why he needs to copy someone...

Sorry for writing without any interviews, but think about it. There are a bunch of female singer-songwriters in Japan. For example, the oldest and most famous one is probably Yumi Arai who debuted 35 years ago and is still working. More recent examples are Koumi Hirose (debuted in 1992), Hikaru Utada (1998) and Ringo Shiina(1998). They had (or still have) great influense on Japanese music market, but it took them a long time to gain stable populality and build their own images. How long has it been since YUI debuted? Only 2 years and 9 months. How long has it been since her first big hit "Good-bye Days" was released? Only 1 year and 5 months. You know, she is still just one of new stars like other artists. We know she did street lives before her debut, but do the normal people who saw her on the TV a few times know that? Probably they don't. We know she wrote most of her songs by herself, but probably they don't. She has to take a long time to build her own image just like other famous and older artists.

Woah... Don't forget Hamasaki Ayumi... That chick can sell any product out there just by being in an ad.

I remember reading once that she appeared in a lipstick ad and the product was sold out on the 1st day of it's availability... She's good....

I didn't write about Hamasaki because she's not a singer-songwriter (just in my opinion though). She writes the lyrics of all her songs but she didn't compose most of her songs. (I don't know much about her, sorry if I'm wrong.)

Janne Da Arc?!...They seem to be more on solo projects these days (Acid Black Cherry)...wiki-ed him.

yuu = you

His name should be in small letters, you, and he is in this industry way longer than dear YUI, just a little bit of misunderstandings.

Thanks for enlightening me vivi =D

Well usually the lead singer or front man goes solo, not the guitarist or bassist or drummer. Most bands are known for their lead singer, the other guys can be changed out without much impact on the group, unless that person was the group's songwriter or composer.

Also, the lead singer has the good voice and star appeal. The guitarist just plays guitar and backing vocals, usually. So for a guitarist to go solo and try to write music and sing, it might explain why he needs to copy someone else. I'm not saying You does though.

I understand what you are saying and I know there are exceptions like hide(X Japan). but, it's rude to him to doubt his senses just because he is not a lead singer. Have we actually heard this album? We can't judge his songs by his name or his position of the band.

I don't exactly see the purpose of copying an already big artist when you go solo. YUI's fans are not going to be mistaken and buy YOU's album instead.

If it were me, I'd want to be known for my music and talent, not for my mad wannabe skills.

Although his guitar playing does sound really nice...

yes im still here.. havent gone inac yet!

i dont think there was any copying...

im just saying that YUI started bringing a certain genre of music that people are starting to do that they did not do before...

"light alternative rock"..

not saying this guy is "light alternative rock" or that he would copy someone that was not in the music industry longer then him...

BUT!!

cant we agree that over this past year... there has been a lot more releases of the light alternative genre?

i mean... i havent really seen much b4 YUI...

everything is... of these categories...

Ayumi... and all the other ones that sound like her... (pop)

Utada... all the other, other ones that sound like her... (semi R&B)

Shiina Ringo... not a lot of others ones sounding like her... but working towards it..(Rock)

then!

YUI

... to mellow to be rock... much more rooted to be called pop... and no heavy beats to be called R&B...

no filthy lyrics... everything is guitar based... and her singles are starting to hold strong on the top of the charts..

SO...

Name me someone that is in this same genre of music... that has topped the charts within these 5 years?

I think you really under rating YUI...

I know shes young in the industry.. but i see a bright future ahead of her... shes a well rounded musician and i would understand if people want to copy her....

In nomine YUI, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.
