Tuning fork... hmm, I wanna learn how to use that too. Sounds interesting.

Oh, if you need guitar tips, you can post your questions in the 'beginner's guitar tips' thread. I forgot the exact name of the thread, but it's also in the guitar tab section.

EzakNoKaze
Your such a determined YUI fan. Good job on your cover on 'it's happy line'! Keep practicing.

Tzyy
At least your dad encouraged you to play the guitar! My parents discourage me.. yeah, also had to beg them too.

zuttodayo
You found YUI annoying before? O dear, that's not good. But I'm glad you like her now. *Thumbs up* Wow, you also have a really musical background as a child. Also, you have a really great voice + guitar playing! I hope you release an album one day! ;)

linku
Even if you have a cheap guitar, it's still worth it if it works. Oo, since you have a mic now, you better start recording videos/songs for us to hear! Hm, I was an athletic child too, but it's due to having an older brother. So, I hung out with him all the time to play sports + video games. Haha.

kh7yusuke
Yamaha Music School? Haha, I went there for my first year of piano learning. It was so formal. We had only 4 students including me at the piano in a completely white room, and the teacher would go around asking each student to play our song.

Qinnie
Yeah, I realize that there hasn't been a thread on this topic yet, so here it is. I'm glad I can help you out with the guitar. ;)

Yue
Listening to guitar music really helps you learn faster. At first, it sounded a bit weird, but over the years, I learn how to play the guitar from listening to the music. I guess it help train you to listen to the rhythm + notes of the song, especially with strumming patterns. Usually the down strokes sound a bit heavier than the up strokes. Also, playing the instrument, of course, but it helps you translate what you hear onto the instrument.

Kcman123
I don't charge kyleoko. I make him perform his guitar songs (in this case, YUI songs) in front of his buddies LIVE. Haha.

atheon
Hey, I'm not outgoing either. I prefer to stay home too, ah, I'm totally opposite of my mom + brother. Hmm.. I think my New Years resolution for this year will be to practice guitar at lesat 30 mins a day.

kyleoko
THANKS. You just gave me a great idea to punish you if you don't practice the guitar, ha ha ha.

Saustic
Oh, yep, most of my college friends play their guitars on campus. I guess it's because they have nothing else to do. I res at home, but I still play my guitar everyday. Haha, I guess I just adapted to this lifestyle.

aimaime
It seems that a few members here also were inspired by YUI's Taiyou no Uta. It was a great movie, so it's not really a surprise, haha. Hm, the Good-bye Days song is nice. She won a lot of fans from making that song. I can play Happy Birthday too! It's nice that your brother is already a guitar player, so he can teach you personally. My brother, well, he didn't think I could learn the guitar, but now, he wants to learn it from me, haha. He doesn't have the patience to learn it, so I don't bother teaching him.

That's true, plus it made me appreciate music abit more. When I was young I actually hated music with a passion :evil, maybe my young, naive, tiny brain didn't like certain stuff. But that's changed and made me like music, even if it's a gap of 14 years. !|||i Orz

I guess that I have a long way to go to train my ears. But little steps is good :) it may take ages but hey... it's not going anywhere. :)

Kcman123

lol your form of charge is a form of punishment eh? WHY CANT YOU BE IN NY!!!! T_T

@nataliejwong: Yea huh? Sometimes, hearing "I wanna learn too!" from your siblings makes you excited because it's more fun when there's more people. But...a week or two afterwards, they just forget about it... (Like my brother...kept asking me to teach him piano last month)
30 mins a day? O.o
That doesn't sound right... Right now, I'm so addicted to it that I'm playing a minimum of 2 hours a day...minimum...XD (Can't feel my fingertips anymore :P)

When you can't feel your fingertips anymore, you won't feel the pain no more. I know 30 minutes isn't enough, but with school work, it'll have to do. For now.

That's very true. It works though. Back in highschool, I dated a guy who loved guitars and played the electric guitar. It's my true weakness, hehe, I love guys who can play the guitar. I don't know why, but there's something very attractive in a guy who can play this instrument. And yes, guys that I know do confess that they learned the instruments to get girls. Haha.

Roxy36
No way. "Drive by Incubus" was your first song? That was my second song I learned on the guitar! My first song was a christian song called, Heart of Worship. <- I love this song so much.

Btw, your headline post is hilarious. XD

I learned a bit of Hilikus + Pardon Me by Incubus. I love the acoustic version of Pardon Me. Hm, oh yep, I used to listen to A LOT of christian rock back in high school. Thousand Foot Krutch, Kutless, POD, Falling UP, Static FM, Relient K, Skillet, Project86, Pillar etc. I still ocassionally listen to these bands today too, but not as much. Now, I listen to Switchfoot, Building 429, Starfield, Mat Kearney, Paul Wright, Hillsongs!! / United Live, John Reuben, Chris Tomlin, David Crowder and the list goes on. Shane Barnard + Shane Everett are my acoustic heros when it comes to picking or strumming techniques... check them out at http://www.myspace.com/shaneandshane

Jason Mraz + John Mayer are also awesome singers/musicians, especially on the guitar. Wowzies.

Your story sounds similar to mine. My parents forced me to play piano, so that wasn't really enjoyable for me. They didn't like the idea of me playing the guitar when I first asked them. I guess it's an asian thing for parents to push their kids to play the piano, as other instruments are boogus to them. Almost all of my friends in school played the piano. Haha. On learning the guitar, I didn't take guitar lessons, it is definitely more fun to learn songs which you want to learn and on your own time too.

wow...that's a pretty wide range of artists...haha! ever heard of Lifehouse? they're pretty good too...you might like them...Oh, and John Mayer and Jason Mraz are awesome!! although John, i believe, is heavier on the guitar playing whereas Jason is more heavier on the singing/wordplay...They're both very good live though! i remember watching John Mayer in concert with Maroon 5...haha! good stuff.. I still wanna catch one of Jason's gigs though...his acoustic stuff is tom cruizazy!! XD

YEAH, of course! Lifehouse is great! I haven't heard them for a while though. The last song I heard from them was 'You & Me' song. A really nice song. I didn't listen to Jason Mraz's songs until a week ago, so he's pretty new to me. I love 'The Remedy' & 'I'm Yours' songs... his guitar looks nice too, Taylor 714ce.. I think. But I can tell he really has a passion for music through his lyrics & guitar-playing style. The way he sings each word with consistency in tone & rhythm. I wish I could do that. I'm not good with coming up with solid lyrics... :( Hmm, I'm trying to learn Mayer's 'Waiting on the World to Change' and trying to sing it but I need to practice the lyrics first.

I just notice you're born in the same year as me. 1985! Cool!

rawr.. I'm a duck.

i'd love to learn an instrument like guitar.. But, like so many others, I'm not sure I have the patience.. I would only want to play acoustic though, because it's so much more intimate..

In regards to picking up chicks with it, it would probably take me a long time to build up the courage to play for someone..

The acoustic guitar is way better than the electric, in my opinion. It does sound more 'interactive' + emotional than the other types. Hm, I'm pretty sure you can play your tunes to an audience once you feel comfortable switching chords while singing. Just don't give up. :)

You have really nice guitars, especially the pickups, Seymour Duncan..nice. Yeah, I was motivated to learn the guitar because of the lack of girls playing this instrument. I never seen a female guitarist play the guitar IN person, so that's why I wanted to learn the instrument. I read your post, and you mentioned that you live in Hong Kong. That's neat. I live in Canada, but my relatives (mom side) live in HK. I used to go to HK every summer when I was a kid. I went back last Christmas 2005, so it was nice to see them again.

wow you live in Canada? I use to live there as well. (toronto) but that was like 7 years ago. I'm going back in september for uni (if I get in) to study pop music. I agree that excluding those who make a living out of playing guitar, there are very little girl guitarists, especially those who perform to an audience. I know a few that know how to play guitar but never get motivated enough to jam or play live so it's good to know that there are girls that have high guitar playing motivation. :guitar

Which university are you planning to attend if you get accepted? Hm, I only played live at church during Sunday service + fellowship nights. Besides that, I have never played a real gig before, because I never been in a band either.

Kcman123
There's definitely a few talented guitarists here on the forum. That would be neat if we could do that, but how would it work?? All of us go on Skype and turn on our webcams? Hehe...

Playing in church is pretty cool, I know someone who drums for his church and he says that it's really fun. I'm trying to get into UT and UWO. they're the only ones that have pop music. all the others are classical which I'm not really into. Alot of my friends don't play in bands either cuz not everyone's interested and it's hard to find people. Most guitarists I know never learnt guitar and play to get girls. but then i also know some that play cuz they like the feeling of having an audience. (like me i guess) :D

Kcman123

hahaha i love the idea of all of us meeting together n jamming away...

but it aint cheap to fly all the way to just about anywhere..hehhe...i think im the only one from brunei in this forum...

majority of u come from singapore, canada and malaysia...i think...so more realistically, it be much easier to meet up with members from the same country..then u just pick a venue n time to meet n jam away...video it n upload so we can all share share :D hehehe...

It would be too expensive to fly to meet up. I still have to pay my student loans! Hehe. Maybe Skype, but hopefully Skype won't crash on us. Hehe. I don't have a webcam.. I guess I should get one. Hmmm..

zenaku
Neat. UT would be nice choice. I go to school near UT. Most of my guy friends learned the guitars to get girls, but most of them aren't serious guitar players. They just play because most univesity students play the guitar in their dorm rooms. Yeahh. Hm, for me, I don't mind playing with my friends, but in front of an audience, ah, not so comfortable.

lolz! Guys im telling you to fly now, the future! think about the future o_O; Besides it was just a crazy idea XD we could try the skype thing, and we all really just need microphones? Not really webcams. Webcames would be mad exciting seeing us all with our cool guitars, but not needed if we wanted to see our musical talents come togethor :P I dont know maybe just a crazy idea, next yui forum anniversary we can think about meeting up? XD Im dreaming again ><

Maybe we should all fly to Tokyo, Japan and have a YUI-Lover conference there. Haha, that would be crazyyyyy! But I'm sure it'll be fun at the same time.

For the Skype idea, we could do that for the forum's next anniversary, or maybe during the summer time. :)

.....I'm not sure if you'll check this thread, but I'll just write it. It's nice to see another YUI inspired guitarist here on the forum. You must been a YUI-fan for quite some time if you knew YUI since her Tomorrow Way's video! I tried singing/playing Tomorrow's Way a few days ago, you can see the video on my YouTube page, just click the link below my signature titled 'YouTube me!'. I only got to know YUI from her LIFE video, so I'm sort of her new fan.

Nice. 4 guitars!!! WOW! I only have 3. I'm hoping to get a Taylor or Larrivee one day. One day.

You got Epiphone Les Paul :guitar, I was planning to get one, but I went for the double cut electric, Ibanez SZ. It's lighter than the Les Paul, so that's why I got it.

heavier guitars have sustain notes for longer and have brighter sound, that's one of the reasons why people use les pauls. lighter guitars like the strat have sharper sound and more tone variation.

My mom still doesn't know I'm playing guitar now. She's the kind of person that thinks its useless unless you can earn your money with it. I just bought one my own cuz I felt I was missing out on something, being 20 years old and never played any music.

it depends on the song. i have a gibson (really heavy) and a yamaha (lighter) and i usually use the lighter one cuz it's easier to carry. I've only use my gibson twice in public and that was because I was playing some stadium rock songs and I needed a fat sound. but in opinion I think acoustic sounds the best :D than any electric maybe cuz it's less electronic.
