YUI's ZiN :P

Tokyo Nights

Debuting as her character Kaoru Amane in the TBS drama "Taiyou no Uta," Sawajiri Erika has set new records in the music industry. Her debut single, "Taiyou no Uta," has held the number one spot on the ORICON Daily Charts for more than a week, and debuted at number two on the ORICON Weekly Charts with a sale of approximately 150,000 copies--the most ever for a debuting female artist on the first week.

She is also the first actress-turned-singer to enter the ORICON Top 3 since Hirosue Ryoko in April 1997 (highest #2) and the first female singer releasing under a fictional name to enter Top 3 since September 2000's Kanno Miho (Highest #3). She also ranks fourth among all the singles so far in the year that debuted at number 2.

Currently, the media is comparing her with Shibasaki Kou, whose single "Katachi Arumono" was released under a similar situation two years ago. That is--song from a TBS drama (interesting to note that both dramas star a diseased girl soon-to-die with the lead actor being Yamada Takayuki), and debuting at number 2 on the Weekly Charts and selling approximately 157,000 copies in its first week. Although "Katachi Arumono" failed to grab number one in the Weekly Charts, it ended up selling approximate 600,000 copies and became one of the year's top 10 sellers. Many believe that Sawajiri may also accomplish such a feat and is putting a lot of attention on her future sales.
I didn't know that single was such a hit until I read this news in TN... I downloaded the album and I thought it was pretty good too.. Hmm... I see some competition with YUI's I remember you on the 20th.... both Amane Kaoru are good... :swt

YUI-ism.

yeah i agree. Sawajiri might have a good-enough and pleasant voice, but it lacks character like YUI has. i agree that people probably are buying the Kaoru Amane stuff because 1) Sawajiri is popular and 2) the Taiyou no Uta movie and TV series are popular.

i listened to the song taiyou no uta, but it just sort of seemed like a run-of-the-mill guitar-based pop song. the chorus is rather catchy go... so maybe i should give it another go before i decide i don't like it. :swt

fumiyasu: Here is the main song in that single if you want to have a go at it.

brad: I prefer YUI too of course

zuttodayo: well that drama is based on a young guitarist composer... not really surprised if the song is so much guitar based pop song...

Generally I can't disagree that the popularity of the drama itself made the album selling like hot cakes... just like Yuna Ito's Precious single has been due to it being the theme song of a movie.

However regarding her future music career... I doubt it would be any where close to the sale of this single...

well, it's still her first try... there's still always room for improvement... thus in any case, can't really compare her with YUI as they are both different kinds of singers.... and in terms of talent and experience... YUI wins hands down...

I think if we just compare popular #'s
Sawajiri Erika is much more popular than YUI
Sawajiri Erika been in show business longer than YUI and she has make her name for quite sometime too.
Sawajiri Erika has fan club already for sometime 2~3~ years, and becouse of this single release as Kaoru Amane it will be one and only single release as this name, maybe even the only single she will ever make. That make this single more collectable item and with she did not a bad job in singing the song, and more tracks than regular single it make buying this single worth a while :)

With that been said, I don't think she is better singer than YUI.
But could this single sell more than "good-bye days" maybe, but it does not mean this single is better. It most likely is the current situation create this overwhelming attention. :)

YUI Marks My Spot ^^

w0w cool..she's really popular eh? But the single itself probably also contribute to this succes. I enjoy the song 'Taiyou no uta' very much.

Btw, I just visited Jpopmusic forum and saw Erika Sawajiri thread there..It sarted at Sep 2, and it reaches 49 pages already..That could also be considered a record probably?

she was already popular from a very young age.... probably the single was just the next step in her career... the song's great... but the singing was just ok.... nothing too spectacular...

just happy that she's doing well... :P

I like YUI and Sawajiri Erika. I like the 'Taiyou no Uta' song but YUI's songs have more emotions and a powerful voice in her songs. Anyways, I like both :) . I can't decide. lol :D

i like them both... Erika Sawajiri is a great actress and Yui is a great singer...

the songs in Erika's single were catchy especially 'Taiyou no Uta' but I didn't expect it to set a record...

Erika debuted as an actress and has a talent for singing, she is known as an actress... Yui debuted as a singer and has a talent for acting, she is known as a singer...

YUI Lover & Knight!

I like both girls. YUI is great for singing while Erika for acting. I doubr Erika will have only 1 single because singing is not really her job. This song itself is good, however Erika's voice is not as good as pro, but her vsinging here is very good. I like this song very much and got addicted. Her 1st rank in Oricon sure is because her famous drama series, Taiyou no Uta. She also has become popular from her previous acting in 1 Litre of Tears.
I'm very proud with the way this forum develops without me.
It's way better then when I started.
Great job to our current active admins and mods.
I can rest assured that this forum is in safe hands!

Its obvious that Yui sings better then Erika.....at least to me.and yea i agree that the reason behind the good album sales might be because of her drama and fans who likes her acting.

Personally, I really liked Erika's single! ^_^ I've watched the Drama and can vouch for her acting.

Of course her record sold a LOT more b/c of the promotions with the Drama, YUI, and the Movie, but that's just smart business. ;)
YUI Itsumo!
