Wow, I think people should really pay attention to what this thread is all about, because chances are that you will be in the middle of an earthquake whenever and wherever you are in the world. Especially for those living close by the Pacific plates, what with more dams being built (ex.-Three gorges dam in China) there's a lot more chances of plates moving more cause more earthquakes... Also, try to be weary of aftershocks as well. Aftershocks can be pretty dangerous sometimes (depending on the magnitude of the initial earthquake I believe)...I'm kinda glad I live further away from the San Andreas fault line, but you never know what might happen. I hear many people feeling aftershocks all the way here (even though I've never felt ANY....) can't hurt to be prepared at all times. Those tips can also apply for tornados as well if you wish to stay at home and live in a tornado warning area..... Thanks Aditz!!!! ^^ |

Yeah ^^;; I always try to remember survival tips like that, and plus we kinda need to learn about these types of things at school....And then I also analyzed the information about the 2004 tsunami so I think that's the reason why I concluded to my aftershock stuff. Plus..I've noticed that the stuff about being under furniture and such were the same things that I had to practice as an elementary school kid too so it can't hurt to tell others about it |

Well I'm not much of a tsunami expert actually, I just know more about the causes of it. I could try saying stuff that's really out of common sense and what I've heard from radios and the news...San Francisco had a Tsunami warning around the same time as the 04 one, so I picked very minimal....But then some people don't know the simple things so here: As soon as there's word of a warning...Run/Drive/BIke/Transport to higher grounds o__o Don't wait the last minute like the MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY people have been doing in tsunami/hurricane warnings. But at the same time, like ANY other situation stay calm. Take ONLY what you need to LIVE...Small jewelry that's treasureable to the max is okay, like a locket from your mother or grandmother or greatgrand something, but DO NOT BE MATERIALISTIC. Basically take with you the list listed in the first post if you can and if it's not too heavy. Also be aware that diseases are likely to occur, mainly waterbourne....Some of those diseases cause diaherrea so...yeah......Be prepared to cook food properly as soon as you get back. If you somehow get caught in waves, TRY to get something that's extremly stable, and if you live in an area that's next to the ocean...you better know how to swim. Don't fear the water, it's always going to be more powerful than a human's physical strength, but it'll always take you away if you don't have the guts to at least put up with it. Whoa...that sounds like something an old sailor would say..LOL Also, for ANY natural disasters that are likely to occur..always observe animals with really accute senses like birds and dogs and elephants (if you so happen to be in India or Africa). As soon as you notice something wrong with their behavior, chances that something's going to happen or happened...Birds tend to be quiet whenever there's low pressure. However, that's my theory, and I'm not sure if that's even proven true since I've only observed birds during rainy days and days when it's really cloudy and chances of rain are high. So what I said in this paragraph is really just personal experience. Also a really good thing to keep in mind is that even if you lost shelter, you still have a home. Sure, maybe a computer or PSP or even a DDR machine might be gone, but what matters is that your relatives and the people you care for are okay. Is it that depressing to have those things gone? Heck yes...I'd be upset to lose a DDR machine if I had one.....but you gotta understand that materialistic stuff like that will eventually be destroyed anyway, but love and care for others won't destroy like that. That's a tip that everyone should be aware of in any situation :) Actually now that I think about it, the supplies said in the first post is pretty much what you need the most when it comes to natural disasters. Also, I am kind thinking that many people are going to disagree with me with SOME of these tips...XD Those are welcomed but don't be suprised if I try to find a good counterexample...mwuhehehehehe |

It's good to know some people like to pay attention to these kind of things...Some people would pay attention, but never take the time to think about different senarios like that before hand...I like thinking up things like this all the time just in case 'cause it makes me feel more safe that way and I'll know what to do if I dont' panic |
